I'd be interested to know how easy it is to get piriton for dogs too.

In my experience if I ask for any Over The Counter medication these days I am subjected to a barrage of questions - who is it for, what are the symptoms etc etc etc.

That reminds me of when I was 16 and had a Saturday job in a Chemists. A guy came in (obviously gay in retrospect) and asked for KY jelly. I hadn't heard of it so didn't know where to look. Items were stored according to use so I asked him 'What is it for?' At which point a senior assistant took over!

I NEVER tell the chemist that this or that is for a dog! They'll refuse to sell it to you! I tell them that they're for my daughter who's asthmatic & allergic to a wide range of things - which is actually true - that she's had them before & that she's taking no other medication! thumbs up

Isn't it the pits though? that we have to resort to lying (or at least bending the truth) to buy a medication that is NOT subject to prescription by a doctor and is not addictive or subject to abuse of any kind. Nanny state UK.

I suppose the problem lies in the fact that the drugs are not licenced for animal use, just as animal drugs aren't licenced for human use? Even though they are harmless, non-addictive, and have few if any side effects. dunno

it is Lynda. When I took Millie to the vet because of an allergy (she looked like she had gone a few rounds with Mike Tyson) he told me to get her piriton from the chemist because it would be cheaper. I get hayfever anyway so I just say its for me.

You get some of them who will just ask whether or not you've used it before, whether or not it's been prescribed by a doctor and who it's for. I'm fine with that! I don't like the ones who want to know all the details, down to the last time you broke wind.
