I'm sure you know that pavements can become very hot in the spring and summer. Please note that, although you have shoes to protect your feet, your dog doesn't. Always check your dog's paws to ensure that no burns have developed and try to schedule walks during cooler times of the day.

If your dog does suffer burns on his paws, apply cool water, keep the paws clean and do not walk him on hot ground. If the burns are severe, veterinary advice should be sought.

Paws are a constant worry to me as Buster has problems with his. He is always cutting them and he once even ripped all of the skin off one of them simply by putting his two front paws on a garden gate when an interloper was in the other part of the garden. The gate is metal, I think he put his paws up there and then slid them off and caught the pad. I just think Buster's paws are sensitive. I never walk him when it is hot and one reason is the pavement and his paws - I just wait until it has cooled down or before it heats up. Good post, many people don't even think about paws as they think paws are tougher than our feet. They are not.

Poor thing! Have vets been able to recommend anything?

Yes, I think a lot of people forget about paws! Dempsey's currently having coconut oil rubbed into his every other day, as they're quite cracked and sore.

I'm using Musher's Secret on them. It's great stuff that I would recommend to anyone.
