Monty Roberts
Of course I already heard of Monty Roberts, and can recall seeing footage some years ago of his "JoinUp" demonstrations (where he takes an unbroken horse and within 30 minutes or so gets it to trust him so much that he can saddle, bridle and ride it). I've also seen his Monty Roberts blanket being used to good effect on racehorses who are nervous of entering the starting stalls.
He is the "Horse Whisperer" from whom our own dear Cesar Milan adapted the name to "Dog Whisperer".
On a recent visit to my physio at the hospital I visited the bookstall and bought a second-hand copy of "The Man Who Listens to Horses" by Monty Roberts and it is a fascinating read. Since finishing the book I've been looking him up on the net, including his own website.
Despite some negative reports on him, I currently think he is wonderful.
Does anyone else have any opinions?

If Monty Roberts took younger brides, i would marry him. I looooooooooooove him. Everything he says makes total sense and he has never once used hitting or scaring to make a horse to something, but he will let a horse know a behaviour is not wanted. I use his methods almost daily on both my horses and my dogs!

I have several of his books! Such a gentle man, and yet he's also firm & authoritative!
A really good blend in my opinion.

Re: Monty Roberts
I'm glad it's not just me being overcome by a senile bout of hero worship!
When I watched an 18 minute long video from his website yesterday, where he talks about Lomitas who had just died, his sincerity shone through (unless he is a fantastic actor) - he really loved that horse and it brought tears to my eyes.

Re: Monty Roberts
He's apparently going to do his demonstration in Guildford (not very far from me) in October this year. I'm going to do my best to go to it.

Definitely go! Apparently he's amazing to watch in person! Sometimes he'll also sign books afterwards.

Good point Caryll! It's not a good camera though (I know - a bad workman blaming his tools) but my daughter was throwing it out and I rescued it from silicone heaven.

Doesn't matter - you just need to be able to record the occasion!

I'd like to see one of his shows, but there aren't any near here.

Maybe not this year, but possibly in the future - who knows.

He keeps himself very busy - I wish I had a quarter of his energy.
