SIX KENNEL clubs have formed a new group which will research and pool information on canine health and other matters.
The International Partnership for Dogs (IPFD) held its first formal meeting at the Kennel Club’s London offices last Thursday at which its board members were elected.
Present were representatives of the British, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, French and German Kennel Clubs. The board comprises Pekka Olson (chairman, Sweden), Caroline Kisko (vice chair, UK), Eddie Dziuk (US), Peter Friedrich (Germany), Jean-Pierre Genevois (France), Patricia Olson (US) and Kirsi Sainio (Finland). Brenda Bonnett (Canada) is the chief executive officer and Ulf Uddman (Sweden) is the chief financial officer. Also there, it is believed, were members of animal welfare groups and scientific researchers.
It is understood that the partnership, a non-profit making organisation, is hoping that kennel clubs worldwide will agree to join.
The plan is to compile useful information provided by everyone involved, including breeders, which will be uploaded on a website to be launched next year. Development of the IPFD health website (DogWellNet) is at an advanced stage and is set to be launched at the second International Dog Health Workshop hosted by the VDH in Dortmund in February 2015 so the data can be viewed worldwide.
