Bloody AOL!

As you probably know, we're moving soon, so I've had to change my internet. I decided to go with Sky for everything, and got a really good deal on the internet.

So, I phoned Aol last week and told them that we would be discontinuing their service on 9th December (next Tuesday). So, what do they do? They cut us off yesterday, a whole week before!!!

Eleanor has exams to revise for & assignments to complete, all of which need the internet. I was on the phone to Aol for 58 minutes last night, and ended up speaking to 4 different departments - 3 of them said there was nothing could be done - it's a 'system thing' - and the last one says he'll see what can be done. He's supposed to be phoning me back this afternoon, but I won't hold my breath!

The upshot is that Eleanor has had to come to work with me today to use the WiFi here (not ideal, but better than nothing), and neither of us will be able to post much over the next week or two!

Sorry everyone - I'll get on when I can, but it'll probably only be a couple of times on Monday, Wednesday & Friday which is when I'm at work.

Going to go back to university tomorrow and (maybe) Friday to finish off assignments and revise for the TCAs next week. Managed to get a fair bit done today, though.

I can sympathise - we're cut off at work at the moment. Not only the internet but all of our network drives, telephone system, alarm systems, video conferencing and e-mail is down. I can't get to any of my data, can't get to any of my journals, attend the H&S meeting this afternoon (shame!) or even check the forum!

Hope you're sorted out soon. We don't realise how much we use it until it's not there!

No, but she can use the university computer rooms.

I'm going to get a dongle (ridiculous word) tomorrow so that'll ease the pressure a bit. I'll claim back the cost from Aol.
