Tyson's foot. Empty Tyson's foot.

Post by tracyp Fri Feb 06, 2015 2:00 am

My dogs are falling apart. While trying to get Jess to eat, I was playing with Tyson to keep him out of her meal & I flipped him over & pulled his legs as we do in play.... he growls & grumbles in play & I blow raspberries on his tummy. rolling on floor He loves it! It's the only time bar playing with Jess he's allowed to growl just for fun.

Anyway, I found this......

Tyson's foot. 20150206_125513

Tyson's foot. 20150206_125531

It seems like a cyst. Fairly firm. About the same density as a pea. It doesn't seem painful to him, but how can you tell with a staffy? The red patch of skin you can see is because it has come up so quickly ( due to allergies i check him every other day but I must admit it's been 4 days since I did  angry ) it has forced the skin to peel but his skin is not broken at all & nor any signs of it having bleed.

The redness under his main pad is normal for him as he has slight allergies but I have neocourt for Jess so, that will be gone in a day.

Any ideas?

Sorry, no ideas - but it does look sore. Dogs are so resilient aren't they?

If it's hard, I'd check with the vet. Cysts are generally soft-ish so I'd personally want it looked at.

I'd also get it checked out. Rather safe than sorry.

I may be wrong, but if it's quite firm, I wouldn't say it's a cyst. Cysts are fluid-filled. I'd pop him along to the vet, though.

Has it ulcerated or started to drain liquid at all?

No, there is no drainage, but a cyst can also be firm, with a cottage cheese excretion when lanced.

As its the w/e, I probably won't be able to get him into the vets till tues so, just keeping an eye on him for now.

Got him & me in the car......nothing.... flat battery! covering eyes  So I took Constantinos' car. Sorry babe, I didn't actually ask, i just took his keys. hug

A 15 min visit turned into the longest hr of my life.  My Tyson is such a good, calm, gentle boy! hug

I "flipped" him over and he just layed between my legs on his back & let the vet take 3 biopsys without moving! thumbs up He had called the vet nurse as he didnt think he would sit for this but.... What a champ my little wombat is! He checked the biopsys.

Longest wait in my life as fellow puppy & pussy owners watched the clock, knowing they should be seen by now.

The best news came! It is not a cyst but a benign tumor.  He thinks it may just disappear by itself over a few months but if it dosent or it causes him discomfort walking he is happy to remove it.

P.S. His diet is working, he's lost weight. party  now only 25.3kg.

I'm so pleased or should I say relieved! I wasn't really worried untill i took him to the vet, Con was far more concerned. Then the biopsys. The vet was gone for about 30 mins as I sat stressing. He really is a great vet, he's the one that treated Jess after the dog attack. A genuinely animal orientated soul.

Tyson was so well behaved, the vet nurse gave him 10 little liver treats & when we got home, I pretended to look in his ears as he gets a treat if he lets you do anything to him he dosent want just so I could give him a liver bicky. tongue

Sweet boy.

When I took Xan to have all his lumps and bumps looked at I kept wanting to cry.
I can't help thinking OMG! what if it's cancer and they can't operate or have to amputate his leg.... there might be something wrong with me though.

Nothing wrong with you unless I have the same illness. thinking

I wasn't worried till I sat waiting.... then.... same thing, what if its cancer? What if he needs an op? What if he needs chemo? What if theres more throughout his body? How will I tell Constantinos?  Etc, etc, etc. So many thoughts in 30mins flooded my mind.

If mine get a splinter, Con freaks out! I'm calm till I'm alone... thats when my mind goes on off on its own tangent.

Maybe we are both obsessed doggie owners?

I've sussed it out as: I'm a control freak and if I've thought of all the worst things I can deal with them as they pop up. I'm great in a crisis. I get everything sorted, saved, caught or whatever but when it's quiet and everyone else has gotten over the situation I have a break down or act out weirdly.

Yeah, I am also there when needed, i deal with anything in front of me, I do what has to be done but,... after.. I am a mess till someone comes along.... then you can call me "steel" till I have my "alone time".

Not an ideal reaction but, leave me be till...

Same thing applies here; like a swan gliding on the water gently, with the feet paddling furiously under the surface.

I actually trully realised how beautifully natured he was after the vet trip. I always new he was gentle, I mean, the damn dog carries chicks home but yesterday was a "light bulb" moment for me. Even I would not have sat still for 3 biopsys. hug

& today is his 6th birthday! party I'll post pics after his party, he has rump steak, served on a bed of doggie meatloaf with tuna & pasta to garnish it. All his favorites in together. He does love steak & pasta.  happy
