How long does a welcome mat last?

Post by tracyp on Sat Jun 06, 2015 4:15 pm

My sis in law rang, (I love her to death)..."are you busy this arvo? Can I bring the dogs over for a play?" Sure! I'm just making fried rice for now... come down. Sure... bring the poodles. Wanna stay for dinner? Nope! Shes got things to do. Ok, no worries. blah, blah, blah.... I'll  see ya soon.

Not only did she stay for dinner (after she'd said no, I didn't cook extra) she stayed till 11pm! All the while my baby Chilli was locked in the study as her poodles are not cat friendly & my chooks had to be locked up hrs early so Paris & Elvis could go out to go "pitstop".

I love her & her dogs but.... a 6hr visit & me not cooking extra! Does she want dinner? Yes? No? Is she going? Staying? Have Paris & Elvis had dinner? Do you want me to feed them with mine! I did say dinner would be around 7pm. Thank god for bread & savory pastries in the freezer!

(Great recipie for leftovers. if anyone wants it.)

Then she made Con go get ice cream as she wanted dessert, which we don't eat!

If it was my sister she would have been told to......

Why say you're dropping in for an hr & don't want to stay for dinner when you obviously DO want to? tearing hair

I'm quite happy for her & the dogs to come over, play, stay for dinner but.... Don't say one thing when another is on your mind, especially when I need to make arrangements for my other animals because yours aren't trained! God, that sh1ts me!

Thanks for listening,  my rant is over. happy

Weeeeell, yes, I'd be a teensy bit irritated as well.

Having said that, many years ago my oh had a leaving do at his firm & he phoned me at about midnight"can a couple of the guys sleep at ours tonight?" "Of course!" Says I.

30 minutes later oh turns up with 7 blokes, all wanting to crash for the night!

I bedded them down & gave them breakfast. Then i gave the oh hell!

Tracy and Caryll, you are heroines! In an emergency I like to think I can cope, but you's two's were subject to thoughtlessness, which is another thing altogether. You've obviously got a much nicer nature than mine! not worthy

Yes, just slightly. wink My animals don't get "unfriendly, untrained" animals. "I" don't get people not saying what they actually mean.

I'd of given him heaps bringing so many home without you knowing.

Maybe I'm weird but I don't even like to pop in to see someone for 10 mins without calling. To me it's rude.

In all seriousness, I would have been too - I think your SIL likes to take advantage of your good nature, maybe one day you should surprise her and say "No" (but if you're anything like me, doing that would upset you more than it would upset her). hug

Yes she does sometimes. Though I hate saying " no", I have done with her a few times now.

That was very rude of her. I'm past the age of social niceties. I tell people they're rude or inconvenient.
