Hi new to the formum
Hi, I am from Norfolk and have a lovely, male, 2 year old, black and white Border Collie.
Im interested to know if anyone else has a dog that suckles on a blanket or stuffed toy?! It sounds really strange, but he will only do it at certain times of the day! should I try to distract him from doing this, or is it perfectly healthy to let him do it?

Hi Sazzblue and welcome to you and your collie
I had a Dobermann bitch at one time, Rio - a lovely softie, who habitually slept on my bed, and almost without fail when drifting off to sleep she "suckled" the duvet cover.
I didn't mind (although I got through a lot of duvet covers as she would give a little chew as well!). Some cats do this as well, as well as kneading at the same time. It's a comfort thing and I don't think does any harm, if you can bear the wear and tear!
I've got a couple of photos of Rio doing this, as I found it so sweet, and I'd post one if I could remember how to do it!

Re: Hi new to the formum
Hello! Welcome to the forum.
Dempsey does this. We do stop him, but that's only because he then goes on to swallow it - the whole blanket if he's left to it.
If all your boy's doing is sucking a corner I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes obsessive.
What's your dog's name by the way?

Thank you, he is such a lovely boy! He goes into a bit of a trance like state when doing this, sometimes he just falls asleep! Fortunately he does not actually chew his blanket up!

Oh bless him - that's just what my Rio used to look like.
It's the doggie equivalent of thumb-sucking, remembering the peace and comfort they found with their mums, which is why they go into a trance I suspect (although I feel sorry for Rio's mum, as Rio chewed so many holes into my duvets!).
Brock is gorgeous!

Hi welcome! Lovely dog. And AWESOME name. Its just a comfort thing, so as long as there is no ingestion of the materials or bloating from air i would not worry too much about it.

Hiya! He's beautiful!
I've heard a couple of stories about dogs who like to suck on their blankets. It sounds like it's a comfort thing, doesn't it? Adorable
