Victorian Bulldog

I had the great pleasure of meeting a Victorian Bulldog recently.

Not that I recognised it as such. A teenage girl was holding it outside our local shops, and I stopped to say hello to the dog. I asked her "Is he a Staffy?" as that is what he most looked like, although larger and with a heavier head, and she told me he was a Victorian English Bulldog. I hope she was right as I was thrilled - he did look like pictures I have seen of the English Bulldog before it became so - changed.

A lovely, friendly and healthy looking dog.

There are a few people trying to breed the Bulldog back to its original looks. The Victorian is one, then there's the Olde English Bulldog & a couple of others I can't remember!

I've met an Olde English Bulldog & he was gorgeous, fit, strong & a fantastic temperament.

The modern English Bulldog is arguably England's national dog (Churchill and all that) and the ones I have met have all been nice friendly dogs, but oh how I wish it wasn't so exaggerated to the detriment of its health.

More strength to those breeders who are trying to eradicate the health problems in whatever breed is affected by hereditary faults.

We had a gorgeous bulldog cross at work a while ago - he was superb - whatever he had been crossed with made him look like a real old-fashioned bulldog (but was a lovely blue-brindle and white colour)
