It isn't showing up, for some reason! Saw it on Staffiesrus and thought it was adorable though!

This forum board can be annoying with links sometimes. It'll decide it doesn't want to post a picture from a particular website. Pain in the rear!

I do love to see them flying about. My daughter was given a device which tunes into the bats' squeaks so you can hear them, and also decodes the squeaks and tells you what species they are (pipistrelles, it turns out).

Thats one of my favorite animals. I love bats. Looks like a flying fox. It's a native to Australia.

I believe bats are called flying foxes in some exotic places.
Our bats in Europe are smaller and Die Fleidermaus describes them exactly - flying mouse.

Awww, so cute!
I often watch the bats flying round here when I take Dempsey for his last minute night walk! But round here, they're just Pipistrelles which are about the size of a small house mouse!

It's great to see them, and know that they are gobbling up all the mozzies and midges that plague our summer nights!

Re: Snuggle Buddies
We have many types of bats here. They are both as small as a mouse with wings & larger than a crow. Flying foxes come in summer to where I live. Flying across the sky you know they are there by the very slow, yet powerful slow sound of " whoooomph.....whooomph" you hear from their wings.
Red flying foxes, fruit bats, chocolate wattled bat, grey headed flying fox, forest bat, oh there are so many to be found here.
Bats are anything up to a 25cm wing span. They use echolocation (sonar) to navigate in the dark.
Flying foxes have a larger wing span. Up to a meter. They do not use echolocation, they have more developed eyesight & sent glands.
They are all bats but we term them...
Microbat: a bat.
Megabat: flying fox for the big boys.

Re: Snuggle Buddies
Did you know that bats may be evolving into land mammals again? There's a species which has started to walk around, rather than fly.

Pfft, when it's David Attenborough, you can't afford to be picky!
Am I the only one who also really likes his voice? Not in an icky way.

He does have a nice/calming voice for commentary.
I'm not sure if wildlife would sit still/go about their day if he was a screaming banshee?
