Still haven't been able to get the vacuum cleaner to work. Should we blame James or Dempsey?

All i can suggest is unplug it, completely rewind the cable, then pull it out about half way & try again !

We have wall-to-wall carpeting and a dog whose hairs are like little arrow tips, embedding themselves into the carpet! laughing Not sure a broom would do it!

laughing I'll pass - too hot out there for me!

I doubt the motor was too hot. It's been sitting around for a while, but wouldn't start at all when I got it out to use it.

James was still asleep and Demps avoids the vacuum cleaner like the plague! laughing The vacuum cleaner has been going wrong for a while now. It stops when the power cord is pulled out too much, so you have to draw it back in for a bit.

It pulled the wiring loose from the main body, so yep.

Demps hates the vacuum cleaner with a passion. He'll usually avoid it, unless somebody shoves it in his face and he can't back off. happy

I was going to suggest that you try changing the fuse in the plug, in case it's blown. But if it has loose wires drifting around then not only would they be likely to short and (hopefully) blow the fuse which is what it's there for, but if it didn't blow the fuse the whole damn thing might become live which doesn't bear thinking about.
