Dempsey is a Wentworth fox.
I have chooks & foxes in the area where I live. So we wired the bottom of the coup so they couldn't dig underneath to get to them.
My sister lives 1000km away in Wentworth. She stupidly said one day....that wont stop the foxes we get.
Oh? So your foxes run around with a tool belt on do they?
Its now a saying in this house. Must be a Wentworth fox that did it!

As far as Demps is concerned, foxes don't exist! He'll do his best to pretend he hasn't seen them!

Seems her foxes carry drills & pry bars with them on their tool belts.

Pfft, don't all foxes do that? They're highly evolved, you know!

Re: Dempsey is a Wentworth fox.
If our foxes don't carry tool belts around with them, they are certainly ingenious at getting into places they shouldn't. My mum's neighbour had some pheasants in a supposedly secure enclosure (mind you I wasn't happy about it, it was far too small for them) but one night a fox scattered them to the four winds (mostly in pieces and a huge amount of beautiful feathers).
I seem to recall from somewhere that foxes were introduced into Australia so that our Victorian ancestors could have fun hunting them. If this is true, I'll bet you are cursing them.

Re: Dempsey is a Wentworth fox.
I dont mind them really. Just not in the chook house. I dont think Chloe, Meg, Alice & Sootie are very welcoming to visitors.
Edit: BTW. Thats exactly why we wired the bottom of the coup. I don't want to find that & if given the chance, thats exactly what foxes will do.

Re: Dempsey is a Wentworth fox.
Do you all say "chook"? Or do you say chicken?
Wentworth is really rural. 2 main streets... thats the whole town... with the highway through the middle. The last time i was there, OMG! 7 cars in town, IT WAS PEAK HOUR! The roo's & emu's come into town for water in summer. They can be found at my friend's bakery having a coffee. Im joking about that but, they do come into the town looking for water. & STEP ASIDE.... I wouldn't stand infront of an roo or an emu!

Chooks is a very apt Aussie term, but one that hasn't really caught on over here.
btw Tracy, and completely off-topic (apart from apt Aussie terms) - there is a dispersing oil to spray on a car engine that is either too dry or too wet to spring into life. It's called WD40 here. But I've heard that in Oz it is marketed as "Start, You Bastard". Is this true? If not, it should be - what a great name!

Re: Dempsey is a Wentworth fox.
Well yes & yes.
Chicken is ready to eat food here. Chooks are what you have in the yard. We rarely say... I have chickens in the yard, always chooks, but, we also don't say we have chooks for dinner, always chicken, though we do say... you want to have chook for dinner? Does that make sense? God, its confusing to me & I understand completely.
We also call it WD40 but.... only when fixing the mail box paddlock or maybe the front door lock. What you'd hear for an engine here is...
Get the f^$k'n mallet.... the f^$k'n thing won't start! Get that piece of sh1te outta here!

Oh, that sounds awful when typed. But really quite funny when said.
A little like...
Get outta here you mungrel. (Said in a jovial manner.)

Yes... "start you bastard" is a common term here. But not for WD40 in general.LyndaW wrote:Chooks is a very apt Aussie term, but one that hasn't really caught on over here.
