My last cigarette
I just stubbed out the last cigarette that, fingers crossed, I will ever smoke.
This afternoon I bought a posh electronic cigarette. It's called Itaste Leo and in 6 days it should have paid for itself and then I'll start saving money. It came with two vials of liquid - I chose Apple and Espresso flavours. Best thing is that, unlike other electronic cigs I have tried, this one delivers the same nicotine kick but with a satisfying flavour.
Fingers crossed I will kick a 50 year habit!

Re: My last cigarette
I didn't realise you smoke!
Good luck! I'm not sure if this will help, but I thought maybe it would give some extra motivation!

There's a timeline, with all the ways your body recovers, starting right from when you stop.

Re: My last cigarette
Well I don't brag about it. I was a child of my generation, everyone did it in '60s and cigarettes were relatively cheap.
I won't deny that I find a cigarette of huge comfort, especially in times of stress. The good thing about what I've just bought is that is satisfying. The health benefits are welcome but far more welcome is the money I hope to retain!
Thank you for your good luck wishes

Re: My last cigarette
Oh Lynda I smoked for 40 +a day for 40 + years and I have given up.
I have been hypnotised twice, seen alan Carr in person, bought his books and nothing make me stop. My husband even had bits if his lungs removed from smoking and nothing made me stop in fact I needed a fag cause I was stressed lol xx
All of a sudden a did not want to smoke that was nearly 3 years ago. I eat all the time and have put on a stone in weight but I can say that I will never smoke again. I don't know what made stop. Good luck to you, if the time is right you will stop

It's been 49 hours (but who's counting) and I must admit I'm struggling a bit tonight. I don't know what I'm craving - it must be all that lovely tar!
Having lashed out £37 I'm not going to give in - I'm not, I'm not, I'm not

Good for you!
If it's any help (probably not) my mum smoked for about 50 years & then just decided to give up - cold turkey! She never smoked again!

Re: My last cigarette
Thank you all!
As my dear friend Oscar Wilde said "I can resist everything except temptation". I have no pukka cigs around to tempt me and no pennies to buy them even if the shops were open, so I have no option but to be strong!

Re: My last cigarette
I'll give you a reason to never smoke again. Are you ready? Sit down.... its harsh.
Throat cancer.
You cannot swallow nor eat!
You have to spit all oral fluids out (even minute by minute saliva) you carry a plastic container to spit in. You receive food via a stomach tube that you use to feed yourself nutrients via a syringe. You wont actually ever taste any food ever again. Not a piece of bread, a strawberry, a pepper steak. You cannot "drink" a glass of water nor ever bite an apple again!
Don't smoke!
It kills not only you but everyone who knows you!
I watched my father die over many yrs.
Everytime you want to smoke think... do I need a smoke or my family more?
I hope you succeed. If not? Try again! If that dosent work? Try again & again, & again.

Tracy - I am really, truly sorry to hear about your father and thank you so much for sharing what must be a painful memory with me.
Your post is heartfelt and sincere and I won't demean you or myself by explaining myself away.

Good luck! You can do it!
My mum smoked for more than 30 years. One day she said that's it and that was it. It wasn't easy but she hasn't smoked a cigarette in 6 years.

Re: My last cigarette
Tracy, that sounds awful; I'm so sorry to hear about your father.
Cancer is a terrible illness, and there are so many different kinds. But there are quite a few that are caused or made worse by smoking. Lung cancer is the most obvious, but also mouth & throat cancer, bowel cancer, liver & kidney cancer. It's also thought that bone cancer is worsened by smoking.
That's not to say that everybody who smokes will get any of those (my gran smoked all her life & lived until she was 99!), but why take the chance?
Lynda - you're strong! You can and will do it!

Re: My last cigarette
Dad made 74.
Lynda.... keep trying. Try again & again & again & again & again & again.
I'm down to 4 a day. I soon hope to be 0.
You can do it!!! Put an elastic band around the pack to remind you . It stops the instant reaction & makes you think.... Do i actually need a cigarette? Everytime you want a cig wait 15, 20, 45 mins.

Re: My last cigarette
I haven't got any cigarettes in the house to tempt me. I am sucking on my vaporiser which is almost as good.
Good luck Tracy with your plan - sounds as if it's working for you!

Me? Not too bad, thanks. Evenings and times of extreme stress (like a hundred times every day!) are the worst, but it's gradually getting more bearable - baby steps!

Both
At least gradual progress is still progress! Means no matter how yucky you feel now, you know it won't get any worse!
