RAW/BARF
First topic message reminder :
I've contemplated switching the dogs over BUT it is way to expensive. My dog food bill is around R1440.00 per month at the moment.
Doing all the preparations myself with cheaper meats from the butcher works me out almost R5000.00 per month. I've been looking for pre-packaged frozen food and so far have come in at R3380.00 as the cheapest. Problem with 7 dogs is I need about 3 kgs of meat a day.

I have the same problem with Tyson. Thats why I added vegies. He has to nibble & if he gulps it down it's less of a problem as the pieces are far smaller.

Lost count of the amount of times Demps has thrown up half-chomped lumps of meat!

I gave him a whole pig's kidney a while back. He chomped it once, swallowed it whole & then started to gag on it! Eventually he coughed it up and ate it!

He's a charming dog!
Oh, the pig's kidney? I hate to say, "I told you so!" Actually, I love to say it. And I will continue to say it, just to annoy you!

Re: RAW/BARF
Mine had snapper guts( selective by me), eyes (con had to cut them out, I can gut, fillet, clean etc but I can't pull the eyes out! I cant touch eyeballs!!! But I also believe when any animal is killed for food, nothing is to be wasted) the dogs ate the tail after I fillited the massive fish today. It was 75cm! The chooks chowed down like ferrets on the head & chilli chewed on the off cuts.
They were so happy! Fresh guts & eye balls! I am now dreading the night bottom smells.

I do envy you your snapper Tracy! Yummy yummy. I don't think I've eaten snapper since I was in Jamaica a million years ago.

Re: RAW/BARF
I love fish! But i have not fillited one this size since i was 20. Twas a big job! But well worth the time. I didn't get it perfect but only the spine was left. So nothing was wasted & though I made a few extra cuts our friend is sure to point out, it will taste just lovely.
It's going on the bbq tomorrow to share with our friend that caught it & his family. It will be so yummy with lemon, garlic, pepper, oil in a foil wrap, maybe a little itallian parsely? a few salads, & a glass of wine with great people. ( it was Spok's dad that caught it).
I can smell it cooking now.
That's my kind of raw! Fresh from the pond, then cooked.

Hope you've had a lovely Barbie, Tracy!
I love fish too - my favourite would be herring if it wasn't for the squillions of little bones it feels obliged to have. Next is mackerel eaten the day it is caught (even the following day it is not quite the same, although still yummy).
