Meet Isolde (nee Jemima) Empty Meet Isolde (nee Jemima)

Post by Lorraine Sun Dec 28, 2014 8:54 am

Yesterday we travelled to Essex to look at a little girl from GSR-Elite, named Jemima. Initial meetings with Morgan and Tristan were ok, so we've fostered her for the time being, with a view to adopting her if it all goes well.

We've decided to rechristen her Isolde - more in keeping with my Arthurian obsession, she's not been Jemima very long so it shouldn't be a problem. She was found as stray and was taken to Battersea, who were struggling to rehome her, hence she was moved on to GSR-Elite. Here's a few pics:

She is as lovely as her name! Gorgeous face! love

Isn't Isolde from medieval times?
She looks quite small... or is it just the pic?
Hope it goes well. How long have you fostered her for?
She is just gorgeous... how old?

Sorry... so many questions.
She is just beautiful! love

Thanks Tracy.  She is quite small, I would guess around 25 Kg - we'll take her to be weighed tomorrow.  The foster agreement is for a maximum of two months - if all goes well, then we'll adopt her before that.  They estimate she's about two - she's quite grey for a two-year-old, but she's lively enough to be one - I think she's probably had puppies fairly recently, she's a bit saggy.  she was speyed on the 19th, so we waited for her to heal before bringing her home.

In the Arthurian stories there was a knight called Tristan, who was the nephew of King Mark of Cornwall.  He was sent to Ireland to fetch his uncle's future bride over for him, but she and he ended up drinking the love potion that her mother had made for her, so they fell in love.  Her name was Isolde. happy

'Isolde' - is that taken from the opera Tristan and Isolde?

The story Tristan and Isolde has a Celtic origin in the King Arthur cycle, Wagner based his opera on this.

I was under the impression that the opera was based on a German book, but I wasn't aware of any other origins, or that the book may have been based on legend! happy Either way, I like it.

What a lovely little girl! Isolde is a gorgeous name.

Her teeth look "young" and the grey muzzle may be natural - Kuchar has had a grey chin since he was born, so maybe the guesstimate of 2 years old isn't far off.

I hope it all works out well for you all love

Still early days - there's a bit of grumbling going on; Tristan doesn't seem to be able to settle.

It does need some time for all to adjust. Long as its not really agressive. Hows Morgan?

Morgan's mostly fine - but she seems to have a urine infection, which isn't helping. She did tell Isolde off for trying to play with Tristan earlier - from the comfort of her sofa without getting off it. The grumbling is all deep throat noise, without lip curling or snarling at the moment.

Well that sounds like puppies adjusting to a new member in the house. Feeling the field, (if you will) It sounds as if its going quite well.

Daily updates will be mandatory. hug

She's doing ok. Now living outside in my old parrot cage. She still cannot fly yet but as her wing was so badly broken I am both hopeful that time will heal it, though not overly hopefull she will ever fly.

She comes inside daily to do her physio & sit on the dogs.

Her leg which she didnt like to stand on is just wonderful now. I think my daily physio has & is working very well as she now "flutters" & she grips tighty with the toes on her bad leg.

All in all she is quite well & I think we have a new pet to add permanently.

That's bound to happen, as long as it's just a bit irritable there shouldn't be a problem.

Tristan will probably settle as the days go on & he realises she isn't going anywhere!

We've had an outbreak of play this morning! Initiated by Tristan - Morgan wasn't amused - but unlike when she told him he wasn't to be friendly with Aslan, he ignored her; Aslan was a bit boring and didn't play (bless him) Isolde obviously has more charms. They've both settled in their crates now (own choice), and Morgan is on the sofa with me.

Think so - as long as Morgan doesn't interfere we've had a breakthrough.

Of course! Morgan accepts her on her own terms - it's anyone playing with her baby she doesn't like!
