Very interesting. I still wince when I see the term Doberman Pinscher - pinscher apparently meaning "terrier" in German, which Dobermanns are not.

No! My Dobes did do a bit of digging as pups, but soon grew out of it. Apart from the speculative use of a Manchester Terrier in the development of Herr Dobermann's guard dog, it's a mystery why the terrier tag has stuck (at least in the US).

One of those things, I suppose, as well as habit! Look at the Great Dane - it was changed to that because having 'German' in the name meant that it must be a Hitler supporter! People are crazeh and habitual.
