Unbelievable....
Appeal launched to help 41 Malamutes in rescue after breeder emigrates
Created: 30/04/2014
RESCUE groups are trying to find homes for 41 Malamutes who have been handed over by an exhibitor who has emigrated.
The dogs belonged to Kristin and Kevin Hunter whose Ch Tuvaurat Made In America enjoyed success in recent years. It is understood they have taken a few dogs with them
The Alaskan Malamute Club of the UK (AMCUK) has taken in 12 and the rest are in other kennels in the UK or in a kennel in Northern Ireland – where one of the bitches has just whelped three puppies. One has been returned to his breeder.
The club has launched an appeal to raise money to care for the dogs and pay for neutering and veterinary fees. Support is already being offered, and Pet Solutions is donating food.
Club chairman Joan Sheehan received a call from another breeder telling her about the dogs, and Mrs Sheehan said her club would help. The dogs who did not stay in Ireland were brought over by Mr Hunter and distributed between kennels.
"Kris is a well-known exhibitor but she hasn’t shown for a couple of years now. I understand she has been on hard times. She is in Illinois now with her husband.
"We’re a small breed numerically and only have rescue kennel space for a few dogs – and we were already full with 12,” she said.
"We agreed to take 12. Benvardin kennels in Northern Ireland – who we are working with – have seven dogs plus the three puppies.
"Most of the bitches are in season and we’re hoping to spay them when we can. There may be other bitches in whelp as they travelled over with entire males.”
The club’s appeal is already attracting support.
"People have been fantastic, and a lot of food is coming in,” Mrs Sheehan said. "One bitch has a problem with her jaw and our biggest worry is that if she needs an operation the funds will disappear very quickly.”
Mrs Sheehan described the dogs the club were caring for as ‘absolute darlings’.
"There’s no malice at all,” she said. "They’re just confused and worried. We’re now in the process of vaccinating and tending to injuries where needed and then we will, when the time is right, get on with neutering. Together, Benvardin and our club will ensure these dogs are cared for and prepared for a new life in loving families.
"We’d like to thank everyone who has stepped up to the mark to transport, foster and donate to the cause. The funds are growing but as the vet bills start to come in we will need a continued effort to ensure the treatment they require can continue.”
DOG WORLD was unable to contact Mr or Mrs Hunter.
Details of how to donate can be found at www.malamuterescue.org.uk and www.benvardinkennels.com.

I can't stand people who give up pets to emigrate. Don't care why they need to move, if you want to move take your WHOLE family or don't go. Would you leave a child cause you couldnt afford the plane seat!??!

Wow. I sympathise with anybody who falls on hard times, but it should be a time to appreciate your family, not abandon it.
