I would absolutely love a Frenchie but another breed plagued by health issues.

There used to be a man we used to see, when I took the children to primary school, who had three Frenchies. They were beautifully fit and active - lovely dogs. But they all died before they were 9 years old. He told me that 8 years old is a good old age for a Frenchie, and you shouldn't expect too many more months from them.   

He still has Frenchies, three of them, I see him from time to time. I'm not sure I'd like a breed that I knew would be unlikely to reach its 9th birthday.  

I agree Caryll but love for the breed makes you accept things; like my mum and her Great Danes.

Yes, I suppose so. But whatever the age, it tears you apart when they go.

Yeah I can't even think on the subject at the moment without crying. Xan is 8 and I know time is counting down. I look at Pugsley with those terrible legs and I know he's not going to have a long life.
Kills you but what can you do; they bring sunshine and happiness into you life.

It does tear you apart. But, I'd never enjoy my life without animals in it.

I think we all know that we are ultimately bringing heartbreak upon ourselves when we take a dog into our lives.

"Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear."

Luckily the joy they bring outweighs the sadness.

That is so true - but I'll always have my heart torn because I can't be without a dog for too long.
