I wish people would remember that deer are wild animals! With any wild animal, you need to be careful in the spring, when the mating and birthing takes place.

Deer are not at all cowardly in the breeding/birthing season!

That deer could easily have jumped over the fence if it had wanted to - scary!

Hopefully if it tried, the owner would have had the sense to put down the camera and get the dog inside!

You would hope he would stop filming, but people seem to film no matter whats happening these days. Lucky his fence held up.
When I was a teenager walking my bf's german shepherd a stag walked out onto the path a few feet in front of me. The three of us stood staring at each other for a few seconds before it slowly walked off. Any deer I had seen before had run off at the sight of people but it was quite intimidating standing there. You don't realise how big and powerful they are when they dart off quickly. He was beautiful and it was amazing to be so close.

Agreed! They're big, powerful animals and should have the respect that they deserve.

They are quite prolific where I live and they seem to be getting braver. I agree with Caroline, they can be quite intimidating and if I didn't have my boys with me I might be scared as I've seen video footage of people being attacked by rutting deer.

Yes, I used to walk in Richmond Park quite a lot with Bandit & you really had to keep a healthy distance between you & the rutting stags - VERY dangerous!

Re: Dog attack by deer
It annoys me when people just assume that animals are going to be placid during the breeding and birthing season. Deer, wild pigs, birds, badgers, foxes - all sorts. No matter how shy they can seem during the rest of the year, they are not defenceless. If you threaten them or their nests, even just by being close to them, they will lash out.

I read an article the other day about how dangerous deer actually are. They kill and injure a lot of people.

Yes, they're beautiful creatures, but very strong. And wild!

Extremely strong! People underestimate them - usually the people who have never seen two stags rutting or a doe protecting her fawn.
