Have you had any health problems with your dog?
If so, what were/are they & how did you treat or overcome them?

Dempsey:
Giardiasis - had to be rushed to the emergency vets in the middle of the night when he was very young, after getting into the compost bin in the garden and eating a rotten banana skin. Within a couple of hours, he became extremely ill; vomiting, severe diarrhoea that was basically just coloured water, a foul smell, then started to poo blood and eventually was only semi-conscious. He was put on an IV drip for three days, but luckily made a complete recovery.
Bloat and blockage - his OCD kicked in and he started grass snatching, which led to a mass of grass in his stomach which had to be surgically removed, leaving him with a permanent pot belly!
S.O.S. (Sudden Overexertion Syndrome) - when his blood sugar levels get too low and he over exerts himself, his lungs can't take in enough oxygen because of their size, causing collapse. Only happened twice and isn't a serious condition. The collapses only happened twice, lasted for a few seconds and will most likely never happen again, as we know to keep his blood sugar levels up.

Re: Have you had any health problems with your dog?
In general no.
Harvey did get a grass seed stuck in his throat causing an abscess when he was little, but apart from that no he's been great!
Chance no the only health complaint as such is we have to be careful of is that he doesn't over heat, which we've got used to the signs of him getting to warm

Ooh, you just reminded me of another one! Dempsey got a grass seed stuck in his paw, which migrated up inside his leg and had to be surgically removed.
Is there a specific health problem that causes Chance to overheat? Poor boy

Re: Have you had any health problems with your dog?
No it's a problem that the breed suffers with unfortunately.
Even though Chance being a Scott type ambull has the longer muzzle and so a none squashed face, still badly suffers. They are great in cooler weather, but i have still heard of ambulls going down in cold weather, as they tend to keep going no matter what, especially if 'working'. So it's just a case of watching him in summer and leaving fans etc on 24/7 for him to get fresh air and a breeze etc, and i obviously have his kool collar

Touch wood and not wishing to tempt fate (although I know it's unlucky to be superstitious ) Kuchar has got to 2 years old without anything too dreadful, apart from kennel cough and colitis, and several incidents of me panicking (hypochondria by proxy).
My previous Dobies were fit as fleas, apart from a tooth abscess in the first one, and an under-active thyroid in the second one. Both succumbed at a reasonably old age to bone cancer.
