I've decided that I don't want duplicate breeds in my household. There are so many dogs to own.

Lovely dobes, although I don't really know what's good and what isn't!
I don't know what breed I'll take on next. My oh wanted a Husky, but I think he's been put off a bit by the amount they shed!

I have a friend with 1 and he's constantly clogging the swimming pool filter with all his hair. They're also not a very people friendly dog. They're more of a independent do what I want breed. They also need a LOT! of exercise daily.

Dobermanns were my first dogs and my first love - they are fantastic dogs.
I've had a very enjoyable few minutes looking at the Marikate website and they seem like very responsible breeders. In particular, the puppies were running and playing freely which was so good to see.
I'm really looking forward to welcoming your Dobie pup to the forum!

My aunt bred, and still owns, Boxers. They have lots of health issues so just choose very wisely.
Very alert and active dogs.

I would have another JRT in a shot! I know a lot of people aren't too keen on them because they are very independent but I love their personality.
I remember when I first got my old Butch and had no knowledge of dog ownership whatsoever. I went straight to the library and took out a generic book on dog care. I'll never forget the very first paragraph on page one (remember this was a book about all dogs and not specifically JRTs') it said:
"All dogs think of their owners as their Gods - except for the JRT which regards him as an equal at best.'
So true!

They have always been my favourite dogs so I've done many hours of reading and know all of their health issues, but I will get a white one and the possibility of deafness doesn't put me off

My aunts love of boxers started with a white girl named Splash as she had a brown patch over one ear. She got her as a day old pup when the breeder brought the 2 white pups in his litter to be euthanised. White is still mostly forbidden in boxer circles but you find them every now and then in pet homes.
Also a deaf dog is not hard to train, my old lady understands quite a few hand signals and focuses on my facial expressions a lot more. She scents as good as a bloodhound hahaha...

I wanted a Dobe after watching Magnum too as a kid :lol:and thought Bull Terriers were just beautiful dogs after watching Oliver.
I have no idea which breed I would want, but I think Staffies are the smallest breed I would get. I couldn't bring another dog into the house with Bella so hopefully I'll have a long time to think about it.

Bull Terriers are lovely, but extremely challenging. I'm always joking about Dempsey being an idiot, but he's actually intelligent - the same as most Bull Terriers. The reason they come across as stupid is because they will never do anything unless they feel that it's worth the effort. They need a lot of very careful, extremely persistent training. People often fall short because they think that they need to use harsh training with a very sensitive dog. If you can get past the stubborn, 'stupid', headstrong behaviour, they're fun and very cheeky dogs!
My next dog will probably be a rescue, so I'm not sure what breed it'll be. Not a Bull Terrier, as Dempsey will always keep that special place in my heart. I love Irish Wolfhounds and Standard Poodles, but my ideal next dog would be a Pyrenean Mountain Dog.

We will only ever be a pet home anyway but whites aren't the for par they used to be or certainly around here anyway but white dogs are my absolute favourites and always wanted a white boxer and I'll get one one day!

This plan might be put on hold for a while. I might be taking over my mums GSD girl Lequita. She's quite high drive and my mums not coping with her own back problems and working her enough to burn off the edge.

sounds a bit like Millie but with an added stubborn streak. She knows all her different toys, knows all the commands but decides whether she feels like doing what your asking. Dempsey sounds like a lot of fun to be around

He's certainly fun, but can also give you heart attacks. His reactions can be predictable in certain circumstances, but very unpredictable in others!
Millie sounds the sort of dog I'd get on well with!

I think I was really lucky getting her, she surprises me all the time. She learned that when I'm finishing cooking I call Karla to come and get it. Now if she's in the kitchen with me I don't need to because Millie goes and lets her know without being told to.
the down side is that she's not exactly obedient if she thinks she knows better

Yes (so far). I collected Quita last night. It's been non stop games so far. I am tired for the dogs sake.
Not everyone can cope with a working breed. As I said she is a high drive, high energy dog, much more so than Axel.
My mum suffers from chronic back problems and can't manage her properly. Quita has been acting out, digging up the garden, jumping fences, bullying the smaller dogs. With me she has some friends her size to run with.
My only issue is my girls as they can be very bitchy with other girls but if they can settle together I have even more training on my plate!
I need to win the lottery as I don't have time to work anymore.

Let me just add my mum feels like the worst person on earth at the moment. She says she feels like she's failing Lequita and I think it's the opposite.
Both our trainer and myself have talked to her and it's better to admit you can't handle your situation and do something about it, than just trying to cope with it and all the issues for the next 12 years.
