I love hedgehogs and guinea pigs. I want to add some to my menagerie but don't have time with all the dogs and training.

More lovely animals Ella!

Please tell me, do albino hedgies have softer spines than their wild cousins?

Mind you, in the days when wild hedgehogs were a great deal more common around my neighbourhood than they are now, I never had any hesitation in picking them up out of the road and depositing them to somewhere safer - it was just a question of knowing how to do it without being speared. I was far more worried about the fleas than the spines.

Thanks Ella - I don't know why I thought the spines might be softer but I did - I know better now.

Are these white hedgies bred specifically, or are they naturally occurring "mutants" who have been rescued?

Bred especially to be white, apricot etc etc

These are African Pygmy hedgehogs and so aren't found in the wild nor would they survive there, and so they are normally a lot smaller then a typical wild hedgie and come in alsorts of colours and patterns, and they are quite easy to toilet train too!

How are the chinese dwarfs with being handled? Karla had russian dwarfs who were quite nippy even after having them a couple of years. Wee ******* would run at you and bite as soon as your hand was in the cage  laughing

I had Russian hamsters when i was younger who would try and chew your fingers off given the chance, these are a lot more docile and neither have nipped me, they are still very quick moving but a lot less nippy happy

That's good to know Ella. Karla has asked about getting them again but she was only about 7 at the time and I think she has forgotten how bad it was lol.

Caryll I think the golden hamsters are syrian but I might be wrong happy

It was a syrian hamster I had intended getting for her because I had always had hamsters or mice but the woman was telling me how friendly the wee russian ones were and two can live rogether blah blah. Yea, friendly to each other! One of them bit Karla and held on. She didn't touch them very much after that.

One of mine was an escape artist.

When I lived in Fulham, we had the middle floor of my Nan's house. My Nana & Grandpa lived downstairs & the top floor was let out to two young nurses. One night we were all woken by the most fearful screams! My hamster had found its way out of its cage, climbed the stairs & sat on the dressing table at the side of one of the nurses' bed! She thought it was a mouse. rolling eyes
