Microchip details Empty Microchip details

Post by Hayley Sun May 18, 2014 4:51 pm

Went into Pets at home today and found out their vets are open (wish i had knew that and i would have took lexi!!!  angry ) but i popped in and had Billy scanned for a chip. I knew he would have one cause he was imported. I've checked the number against petlog and europet and it doesn't have any details attached so i assume they just chipped him to import then never registered his details.

So my qu is can i use that number to register my details or will i have to rechip? The vet said shes happy to rechip him but it means he has two chips and if they pick up the dutch one with no details on it then he is not traceable.

You can update microchips, so I don't think it's necessary to rechip! happy I'm not sure if there's a fee for updating the chip. I think there might be, but it's probably not expensive.

You'll need some sort of paperwork to show ownership. A re-homing form should be okay. happy

Hmm, i'll call out to the lady and see if she can provide anything, cause it does say in her policies that abandoned dogs will be rehomed or destroyed (last part is purely for scarmongering, she kept a 2xdogs for 5 months once cause the owner put them in then fell and had to get surgery!)

Don't talk to me about bloody microchips!

Chance was chipped when he came from the rescue, but they wouldn't change or add my details to his chip, despite us living over 25 miles from the center. They said there was no need we would have a visit every 6 or so months, i've never heard a thing form them since the day he walked out the gate!

So i spent ages talking to petlog at crufts and on the phone trying to get them to change his details to me, as for start he was chipped as a very small white staffy!

I did convince them to change the details with a £10 fee, and sending a copy of his adoption form to them so he is now chipped in my name nearly 3 years later!

I shouldn't have an issue that way cause shes not a rescue so won't be needing to check up, she will be happy to sign him over so to speak. Just getting pet log to agree! Maybe cause there are no details on the chip i can just "up date" it and say ive have him all along lol

It's tempting to do it, but I wouldn't, just in case you get caught out! laughing

Pet log should be able to do something about it! happy

Typical - 24/7 means when we can be bothered to have someone man the phones!

I'm going through microchip nonsense myself.
Missy was chipped by the breeder and I paid for that. Now the company (Identipet) wants a further admin fee.
I'm tempted to just have her rechipped with a Backhome chip (that all my other dogs have). Identipet said that if I don't pay the "nominal" admin fee they won't give my details, whomever finds her will have to find it online. Just their attitude pisses me of.

That's just ridiculous! So much for these companies being concerned about the welfare of animals over the money.
