Really good article.
I've found that Millies body language is easy to read but it's a lot more difficult with Bella.

Dempsey's body language was difficult to read at first, but I've gotten used to certain signs now - flagging, tiptoes, staring intently, etc..

Very nice article. I noticed a few of the things from my lot. Lexi for example will throw herself onto her back and practically melts when getting a belly rub and if you stop you get a nudge! Billy is the opposit and if he's on his back he's very stuff ears pinned back and looking nervous so he doesn't get belly rubs! Also the slow back tail wag he reserves for lexi lol he's always staying out of her way which is good but he does always glance hoping that she will one day invite him in (don't think that will happen lol)

Dempsey doesn't do the slow wag quite as much, but he flags a lot. That's a big warning sign for us, but other people just think he's wagging his tail.

What do you mean by flags? Just puts it up straight? Lexi doesn't use her tail it's usually under her or held to the side so although I know that's her being unsure I think it can be quite confusing to other dogs.

Held stiffly, pointing straight up. Short, fast 'wags' from side to side. It's a threat and is often mistaken for friendliness.
I think every dog displays slightly different behaviour to others, depending on their personalities!

Yes, the flagging is a warning. The 'wags' can range from a stiff quiver to a stiff wag - but always stiffly held, and raised well above the back level.

The sitting calmly and tail wagging are important as they're what confuse people most.
Good read.
