Yet another bad stomach for Dempsey. He just messed himself, poor thing. Wish I knew what's causing all of this!

Poor Dempsey. It must be frustrating.

I've read and had it recommended on forums that canned pumpkin is great for stomachs. If it's loose the pumpkin binds it and if the dog is constipated it loosens the stomach.
We don't get it here but if you guys do maybe add it daily.

I think we've tried pumpkin before and he turned his nose up at it. Figures that'd be the one food he doesn't like! laughing

Mix it well into his dinner, he'll never know if you add gravey.

Another problem, unfortunately. Any sudden change in his dinner usually results in a bad stomach. Either that or he just won't eat it. It's a nuisance!

Tbh, I'd sooner find out what's causing it first though. I think it's diet-related, but my brother was here for a few days; he feeds him a lot of treats. Now that he's gone back to uni, the treats have stopped and we can sort it out.

Just a thought, but when Kuchar had awful upset stomachs last year and we tried everything (starving, chicken & rice, etc etc) to no avail, we took him to the vet who diagnosed colitis and gave us some tablets (can't remember what they were). So that's one thing - a sort of "irritable bowel".

But just as an aside in general chit-chat, I mentioned that we gave bits of cooked liver for treats and rewards. The vet told me never to give liver! I was surprised, but stopped giving Kuchar liver for the time being whilst he had the anti-colitis treatment. After the course of tablets finished and he seemed well again, after a bit I gave him some bits of cooked liver again (not a lot) and he had an "upset" again. I've not given him liver since and touch wood his bowels have behaved perfectly ever since.

As I said, just a thought.

I actually mentioned that to mum earlier, but I think it's more likely to be something he's eaten. Although we know he does have a weakened digestive system. sad

Liver does the same thing to Dempsey! happy Too much Vitamin A and fat.

I use Gastropect or Pro Kolin on upset tummies. Specially if I have rescue kittens. They usually have had to survive on carbs and if you put them on cat food.. severe tummy upsets  sick sick sick

I use Kaogel to good effect normally, but hasn't done it this time. I think it may be some biscuits he has - I wonder if the recipe has changed.

Could it be IBS/IBD?

I think it's unlikely. I considered the possibility of an irritable bowel, but the symptoms don't match. He does have a sensitive stomach, particularly prone to food intolerances, but that's due to his operation.

Have you had him investigated for it at the vet?

No, but he's always had a sensitive stomach anyway, and the vets upset him so much that he gets a bad stomach after visits, so unless it gets bad I'll deal with it myself.

Yes, he isn't 'ill'.

When you have a dog with a sensitive stomach you tend to get used to dealing with it - the vet becomes a last resort rather than a first port of call!

It's strange. He does like his vet and would probably go mad over him outside the practice, but he just cowers and shakes inside. sad
