I found this on Facebook and it is ingenious and very easy and cheap to make.

A big pvc pipe over a smaller one. When the dog jumps the pipe rolls and he/she can't find any grip to go over the wall.

That's actually very clever - simple but effective. And safe!

I'm looking at it from both a kennel worker and an an engineering pov. Firstly, if the dog jumped up and was faced with a roller, it would panic and try to grasp, which for a dog is putting the paws on/through that lovely diamond wire. Body falls back down, dogs got two broke legs, hips, or back. This has happened in my time at kennels, i got bitten trying to save one.

Second, if it managed to crawl up and was small enough (like JRT) it could just crawl under the pipe, the wire will bend enough to allow it.

Hmmm. Didn't look at it that way - maybe if it was a wall rather than a wire fence it would be better?

I think it would depend entirely on the dog. If you have the type of dog who is likely to take a flying leap at the fence, probably not a good idea. However, the person who constructed the fence probably would have known what his/her dog was likely to do and whether or not the dog could be injured in the process. I hope, at least! tongue

That kind of fence is typically used in america and australia cause it is cheap and lets air flow in, where as here we all want brick cause it keeps the heat in. But yeah, that on top of a wall or wooden fence is a bloody brilliant idea. I just hate fences like that for any animal lol!

No, I'm not a huge fan of those types of fences. They're not really sturdy or private enough for my liking, either!

There's a much smaller chance of the pipes or fence causing injury than your dog stands roaming the streets.
