Elvis is poorly
First topic message reminder :
He's been missing for 2 days and last night when I got home he was back but cuddled up in Xans bed. He didn't get up for food but as it was freezing I didn't find it very strange. Checked his gums and ears and he looked ok.
This morning he was still in the same spot so gave him a thorough inspection and he was yellow. Immediately thought: Biliary.
Off to the vet we went.
Checked his blood and no parasites. Vet and I both into her books and Internet because his red blood cells looked weird and she hadn't seen a case like this in 25 years and couldn't remember the exact term.
Well I learned 3 new words today Echinocytes, Acanthocytes and Schistocytes. His red blood cells have spikey membranes instead of being round and smooth. Very interesting stuff. I have to go and read it all up properly still.
Anyhoo... he has a liver infection and maybe high colestrol. We're treating the liver for 10 days and will do another scrape and blood tests.
We're treating him for Biliary as well as it can flare up with supressed liver function and his immune system being down. Horrid opportunistic little parasites.
He's locked up in my spare bedroom and ate some sardines happily earlier. We have a bit of a war going as he has 5 pills to swallow.

Re: Elvis is poorly
Theresa.... I'm so sorry I missed this post.
You've done the right thing. I watched my cat mitzy die of feline aids. Also decided to end it.
You have done well for Elvis.
R.I.P. babe... your families pain is showing all the love for you.
It will hurt less in time but you will never forget how he touched you.
Try to think of all the fun he created.
R.I.P.Elvis.

Re: Elvis is poorly
There's a place we all go.....
After our last breath.
I am not gone, I am just far from you.
Beautiful rolling fields, flowers, grass to roll in, trees to climb.
A couch to lay on, a blanket, a pillow...
Ohhhh, the fire burning.
Bowls of food &water.
Whatever they like.
Yes.... they have fresh tuna too.
But they are not quite complete....
They run, play, sleep in the sun.
Its a wonderful place.
Then..... on day in the future..... eyes wide....
Someone is coming.....
Could it be?
He runs... fast & with purpose.
Its you he sees!!!
We are together again.
Run free at the bridge Elvis.

Re: Elvis is poorly
That is beautiful but I'm pissing again.
Poor Mitzy, RIP.
I've been reading up on FIV and there were small signs that should have allerted me; he often had ear infections and scabs on his neck but Revolution sorted it out in a week or 2 and I put it down to fleas and outside farm living.
Also with him and Twinkles so close together... I'm feeling really very heartbroken and angry today.
I just snuggled with everyone and soaked up a bit of extra love. Pugsley hasn't left my side, he's actually annoying with his clingy-ness. Poor boy is so sensitive.
I'll take Hector to be tested next week.

Re: Elvis is poorly
Be as pissed as you like. I'm aware of the pain.
Hug &kiss them all.
Sending kisses. Theres nothing I can say to take the pain.
Just remember.... he had fun, you loved him, he loved you.
What a beautiful life he had!!! Remember that.

Re: Elvis is poorly
Take your time. But, I do know..... a kitten will fill the void in the house, but not the void in your heart.
Give it some time. Remember, your fur babies are also greaving. They too have lost a loved one.
Feel like posting a hundred Elvis pics? Love to see them.

Re: Elvis is poorly
I would really like to find a new kitten or rescue some furbaby in need.
This might sound wrong; but I need to balance my Karma/Energy/Feng Shui or whatever you want to call it. I'm feeling tipped over into the dark side.

Re: Elvis is poorly
There's absolutely no shame in feeling an empty space and wanting to fill it. It doesn't take away from any of the love you feel for Elvis! If you feel that getting a new cat or kitten is what's best for you and your mental wellbeing, you should do it.

I don't deal with death very well and this year has seen quite a few for me.
I need some light and new life.
