Never thought of it that way.. Empty Never thought of it that way..

Was talking about Tyson on a forum, and how its so irritating that staff crosses are being killed and one reply was:

To be fair to the police, they could hardly enforce the law on banned breeds if they are using one themselves, although you would think someone would have thought of the consequences before they started training the dog. In theory, as they are banned there are no "pit bulls" in this country, the law obviously doesn't work and everybody sees dogs that they would consider to be pitbulls, I don't know how else it can be policed other than by type now.

They make a lot of sense and i never would have thought of it that way. Esp the last part about how they have to go by type. Of course i would still see BSL abolished.

I'd still like to know what the police consider as "type".

It's a loose term, sadly.

I think what angers and upsets people about this case is not that he was condemned as a type, but that he was allowed to get so far and accomplish so much, becoming an ambassador for his breed, only to be put to sleep.

Yes that was what is so very upsetting - the poor dog was trained for ages and showed so much promise for the good of all, then someone pops up and says "he's type" with the result - instant death.

If i was RSPCA i would have been smuggling him out and saying that he was stolen, and homed him. Id be a terrible RSPCA inspector. **** the law.

As if something so trivial as his looks could take away from all the good he'd done through his personality. sad

I'd be the same way, Hayley! I wouldn't be able to do it.

I'd be doing that, sneaking them out the back door. BSL is the most ridiculous law out.

I don't I could ever bear to be an RSPCA inspector. I would want to save every animal, but I know the laws and regulations they hold wouldn't allow that.

Yeah that is it. This dog was contributing to society but society deems him not fit on looks. Maybe they could have done a DNA test first.

AND if anyone on here's dog gets classed as type ship them to me immediately.

The problem with DNA tests is that they are so inaccurate. I remember someone on another forum getting their pedigree GSD done (just to see what came up) and it came back that there was a mix of about 6 breeds in there, including a bulldog! shocked

What I don't understand is that the law allows for a pitbull 'type', in exceptional circumstances, to be registered, chipped, neutered & insured - so why could that now have been done for him? Surely he was an exception worth making?

The police said that they didn't push for that because the type of work he was going to be doing would not have allowed for a leashed, muzzled dog. He needed to be able to be free and use his noe unhindered.

All the what ifs in the world won't bring him back and make people act like reasonable beings.
RIP boy.

No, he wouldn't have been able to continue his work, one way or another, but he could have very easily been retired and rehomed. He's served well enough in his life.

I just hope something can be learned from this.

I'd like to think so, but bureaucracy never makes sense!
