Axel is sick

First topic message reminder :

He has biliary.
He had terrible diarrhea thursday but I got that sorted and vet gave him some anti-biotics and gastropect to stop his tummy. He was totally fine in himself.
Yesterday night he was very lethargic and not himself. Ate his supper, no issues, but just quiet. He looked like he had a tummy ache so I dosed him again and gave him some meds for gastric spasms.
This morning there was no improvement and he was walking hunched up. I still thought it was gastric.
Decided to take him back to my vet but she's sick in bed so had to chase down the highway to get to another practice I like. My vet there also thought it was gastric till he came to Axel's spleen which is very enlarged.
Did a blood smear and bang! biliary parasites. Did a blood count and the red blood cell count is quite low.
Vet could almost not believe it as Axel is not showing typical symptoms.

I'm very stressed as dogs easily die from this. One moment I feel he's fine, he's eating, going toilet, picking up sticks outside and bringing them to me... next he's sleeping and he looks so weak, panting and breathing very rapidly due to the loss of red blood cells...

We need a few prayers tonight please. He's one sick puppy.

Poor boy, but at least he seems to be picking up gradually.

The improvement from Saturday to Sunday to today is huge. I wish I could explain to him why he has to be quiet and rest.

You never can. They just think it all fun & playing till they dont feel well. Then its mum.... I dont feel good.

So glad he is improving. Keep us up to date & hugs & kisses from us. I hope he keeps up the improvement each day.

He is so bored today.

Poor boy They tend to know when they're being helped though, so at least they don't resent you for it!

Will still keep him in my thoughts for a quick recovery!

Hows he going today? Hopefully still on the improve.

He's the same. Feeling like himself but still a bit pale and breathing still a bit elevated. It's hard work keeping him quiet as he doesn't feel bad.

I know, keep struggling for a day or two! I know its hard but... he'll thank you in the long run.

He's looking better this morning. He's got better colour but I don't know if it's just because he's hot. We've had some unseasonably warm weather the last few days.

So glad to hear he's picking up.   

I suppose it takes a while for the body to make new red blood cells.

Such good news that Axel is making a good recovery    both of you!

More for Axel! I agree, it'll probably just take a little while for his body to recover.

Thank you. He's just about back to normal.
We'll keep quiet this week but from next week he's back in training.

Not that he wants to sit out. He screams like a banshee when I'm working one of the others, specially with retrieves. He unnerves Lequita so much she's gone back to not wanting to do anything outside

A sure sign that he's feeling more himself!!

Poor Lequita, though. Hopefully she'll get her enthusiasm back soon!

She drives me up the wall some days.
If your tone of voice is just slightly not sounding perfect or your body language looks off by 0.5% she shuts down. She can be so happy, playing and the next moment she flees to her bed because I yelled at Spike not to climb through the fence.
I don't understand where her fear comes from and if it's just a learned behaviour for attention. She works so beautifully at school that I can't show what her problem is.

Poor Lequita, I think some dogs can just be really sensitive. Millie will hide or jump on top of me if she hears a change of tone in my daughters voice. Big   for both of them x

My only guess would be that some dogs are more sensitive than others. Couldn't say why though!

Being sensitive doesn't stop her being a shite though!
