Cart came!! Empty Cart came!!

Post by Hayley Fri Aug 01, 2014 9:44 pm

Yay! My little gelding pulled it around the yard once, and he was fab! Backed up into the shafts and stood to be all hitched (he had spent the day with the cart in the field) he is just born to drive, can't fault him.

Just need to start building up his strength now before anyone sits in it!

Oh good boy standing between the shafts like that, all ready to go!

Will you long rein him with the empty cart for a while? And then put gradually increasing loads in the cart to build up his strength?

Hes been long reining for months now, so just needs to build up strength and yeah i plan to get some weights to add to see what he can pull. No point me getting in to realise he cant pull me!

I'd think that's the way to go tbh, if only to get him used to pulling heavier and heavier weights. Maybe no need to lash out money on special weights though - straw bales, hay bales, rocks, lumps of machinery, sacks of earth, stones etc etc? Graduating to increasingly heavy teenagers/adults if you can persuade them!

In years past donkeys and even goats would and could pull little carts with a passenger, so Thriller should find no problem!

Beautiful pics. He's a gorgeous little man. Strength training is a must. We use bags of ready mix cement or car tyres.

Gorgeous boy! I've always fancied a little cart for Morgan - I think she'd look good with one.
