I agree with him. I used to see loads of Collies, Spaniels and Scotties but they're fairly rare these days.
Brittanys and Irish Setters I've never really seen here.

What other breeds have you not seen in a while?

Doberman's and Bull Terriers are also quite rare here these days. They used to be in every second yard.
And a breed that used to be everywhere and you can hardly find anymore in South Africa is Schippertjes. They are so cute!

Hmmm.

I haven't seen a rough collie in years! But cocker spaniels are ten a penny round here - there are probably 5 or 6 just in my block!

I see a few Scotties, but have never seen a Brittany spaniel in the UK although I believe there are a few.

The Akitas we see around here are the American kind - I haven't seen a Japanese type for many a year!

There used to be a couple of rotties here, but no more.

We get quite a few Border Collies in our area, but, like mum said, no Rough Collies anymore. Loads of spaniels, a couple of Scotties, several Westies, a couple of Irish Setters and a handful of Dobes.

We don't get many retrievers, aside from Labradors. The occasional Golden Retriever, usually elderly, but that's all.

Same here. We have a sprinkling of Irish Setters, and even and Irish Red & White setter; no Scotties, but Westies by the bucket-load.

I haven't seen a Rough Collie for many years, and unfortunately no Dobermanns either. No GSDs apart from white ones. Not as many Staffies as before either, or poodles (all sizes) or Setters of any description.

Border collies, Springer Spaniels, Westies and Yorkies are in multitude.

A lovely old man (even older than me!) has three dogs; two mongrels and a corgi. Corgi shrieks its head off without drawing breath; if typical I don't know how our own dear Queen endures the racket!

I've never met a Basenji (lovely dogs) on a walk. Only ever met one at places like Discover Dogs.

Anybody ever come across one?

Nope, never seen a Basenji in my life, to the best of my knowledge.

I met my first Chinese Crested a couple of weeks ago, in PAH. The lady had got him from rescue just that day.

Basenji's are pretty rare anywhere. Apart from shows I don't think I've ever seen one.

Chinese Crested dogs have an odd charm to them! I quite like the Mexican Hairless, as well! happy

In a way, I'm glad Basenjis are rare. That's the last breed of dog you'd want running about with a clueless owner. One of the most difficult dogs to train and one of the noisiest, despite their 'barkless' reputation. They fascinate me though!

I love the Powder puff Chinese crested. I would like to own one some day. A friend had a hairless one and tbh I find it kind of icky.
The Mexican hairless is a beautifully proportioned dog. I like them but again the no hair is just not right.  tongue

This one was cute too, and not as timid as the lady thought he was due to his ill treatment (he was thin).

Yes he did look like a long-haired dog with severe alopecia, and it must be trial to look after them properly in sunny or cold weather, but they are still on my wish-list of dogs.

At discover dogs, I asked one of the owners about grooming and health in the Mexican Hairless. He said you need to put sunscreen on the pink skin, but that's all. Also, a jumper/coat in cold weather.

I think they're vastly underrated!
