Pyrenean Mountain Dogs

I don't know if I've mentioned this before but there's a couple near us with 3 Pyreneans. They always seem to walk them in two lots - big male (Brock) alone & two smaller males (or possibly a male and a female) together. The big male isn't a problem, he's pretty laid back & he & Dempsey just look at each other and move on.

The two together are a different matter. They seem to be big, fluffy, friendly giants with people & other dogs, but for some reason they loathe & detest Dempsey! As soon as they see him they go mental - and that really is a terrifying sight! The owner is hard put to control them.

I tend to stand behind a car, or at least cross over when I see them - that's if I can't walk the other way & disappear! I wait for them to go out of sight & carry on.

Now, you all probably know that Dempsey is a little 'in your face' with other dogs & can be DA, so you'd expect him to kick up a fuss, right?

Not a bit of it - he goes into his 'fox mode'....

"I can't see it, it isn't there, it doesn't exist"

He's not as stupid as I sometimes think!

I'm glad he has the sense to avoid them! He wouldn't win!

I do believe that dogs can give off negative vibes to other dogs, for whatever reason we probably don't understand.

But well done Dempsey for realising that you would be punching above your weight here and lying "doggo"!

Most dogs know who to push and who not. Survival instinct.
I do find it fascinating that some dogs just hate each other or some specific breed for sometimes no reason.

What makes me laugh is when somebody confidently says that their pampered little house dog would totally stare a wolf in the eye if it ever met one! Wouldn't back down or anything!

... Pffffffffffft.

Seeing is believing.
I don't know what mine would do. Spike would try to make friends - that I know. He tries to make friends with everyone and everything. Even my mums carved rock rhino.

Making friends, I could believe of some dogs. But challenging a wolf? Even other wolves are very reluctant to do that, unless they're confident of their own strength and ability to lead.

Demps is a bolshie idiot, but even he wouldn't square up to a wolf

Clever boy Dempsey

There are a couple of dogs that pass our house that Millie absolutely hates. She barks at all dogs passing but with these her hair stands up and she scrabbles about at the window. No idea what makes them different to others.

Strange! Maybe it has something to do with pheromones!

Goodness knows. All I know is that they hate Dempsey! Haven't seen them recently thank goodness.

I absolutely adore them if I'm on my own, but I'd probably have a panic attack if I was with Demps!
