Washing machine
buggabuggabuggabugga!
It's been working fine, no problem - then Eleanor wanted to wash her stuff for university & all of a sudden it's leaking. Serious, copious water all over the place. Pulled it out & had a look but it's leaking from underneath, so I'm stumped.
Have to phone the repair man in the morning - luckily I have a repair plan!

Re: Washing machine
Oh heck, sending my sympathies.
When I buy something I (even now, and after years of experience) I expect it to last forever. Built-in expendability I find hard to accept.
Hopefully, it's just a loose or perished hose. Good luck Caryll

Thanks. At least with the repair plan, if it can't be repaired they replace it. It's just so inconvenient!

Re: Washing machine
If it didn't manage to damage your flooring as well you can count yourself lucky.
In my experience, when an appliance (which I counted on to last 100 years) fails, it not only deprives me of its services but does its utmost to cause as much havoc to its surroundings as it possibly can.
Once again, Good Luck!

Luckily Eleanor spotted the water coming out so there's no damage to the floor!

I don't think so, but I'm not going to fiddle with it - knowing me I'll just make it worse!

Re: Washing machine
My mums machine did something similar, so she opened it up to see if she could spot something dodgy, sat looking at it for 30min, closed it up, and it stopped over flowing.
She probably scared the machine into fixed-ness.

The engineer is coming tomorrow - any time between 8am and 6pm. I wish they could be a bit more specific, but at least he's coming!

Thank god I have a mechanic / fitter & turner at home. I hate when machines don't work or break down.

And it'll be the one day you are bored at home, want to go out or run out of something really important
And that must be great Tracy, having a all-in-one-fixer-upper on call. I was thinking I need to marry a vet but you may be showing other upsides.

Re: Washing machine
It's brilliant! He fixes machine the size of our house! A washer or dish draw is nothing to him. But, it's the world to me when it breaks down.
thank god for Con.

Tracy you are sooooooo lucky! My oh wouldn't know where to start - if there's mechanical fixing to be done, I'm the one who does it!

I too envy you Tracy - it's the same in my house as Caryll's. I'd have more luck asking Tristan to fix something!

Re: Washing machine
Well, "the man" came & had a look.
There's a hole in the drum (he took a photo & showed me) underneath so it'll need a new drum. He's gone away to cost it (he thinks around £200/£300) and the insurance company will decide if it's worth repairing or whether it needs replacing.
Apparently it should take about a week, so it's back to the laundrette for a while!

Yes!
Luckily there's one just round the corner from us & they do service washes so I don't have to hang around!
