Any shooters amongst you?
First topic message reminder :
Today I did what I have always said I would never do!
I have always been anti gun. But I thought....Why should I be so anti anything, with no real personal experience to base it on bar our friends or farmers so..... Lets just see. My neighbour took me to learn how to shoot at the local gun range. (Hes a range manager down there.)
Wow! Is the most descriptive word I have right now.
I learnt to shoot a 22 ruger, a 350 magnum & a rifle with a scope. After shot #1 asked my heart to leave my body, I loved it!
The ruger is too little & very light, the rifle is too big & heavy, but the magnum is...... just right! I got the bullseye at 25 mtrs 3 times on my 1st day shooting! Seems I am suited to shooting targets. I even got the bunny pic perfectish. All shots to the body. Not one outside the pic.
They were having a "western" themed shoot today. Brilliant costumes, western side guns, shot gun bullets strapped to them, spurs, cowboy hats, ladies in frocks with side arms. Damn those girls are good! They raced with the men with big & heavy guns in one comp. I wouldn't have been able to lift it let alone shot & hit a target!
I had a brilliant day, met some great people & saw some shooting that would put Annie Oakley to shame.

I've already said that I accept that farmers must have the right to own certain types of gun - but under strict guidelines.
My point is that no ordinary person needs to have a gun in their home - well, not in the UK and from what you've said in the past, not in Australia either.

I agree, farmers do need them, but whats wrong with a (responsible) ordinary person owning one for sport? I'm not talking about idiots keeping load guns in the house. I'm talking about registered shooters, guns in safes etc.
We too do not NEED guns generally but I would guess our gun ratio per house is lower than the USA but higher than the UK. I know of about 10 people with guns in just my street of about 80? Houses. I'm also sure there are far more guns in my street than I know of.

.
What's wrong? As I've already said, nobody can spot a psychopath (or even a rash, hot tempered person) just by the checking of identity. If you have a gun for sport, what's wrong with keeping it locked up in a secure gun club? Why do you need to have it in your home?
Maybe the violent crime rate in Australia is higher than the UK, and you need to protect yourselves? That's the only reason (other than bravado) that I can see to having to keep a gun in your house, other than a farmer needing to protect his stock.

If gun clubs where holding onto high numbers of working firearms they would be targeted a whole lot more. Take it 100 members = at least a 100 guns. If those guns are kept at members houses a much, much smaller % could potentially be stolen. The higher number of weapons on the premises would also make them victims of syndicates.
Anyhoo ... I want my weapons on my premises in case of a zombie apocalypse.

I had to look it up on Wikipedia. Definitely not my kind of thing!
I didn't read it all, but is the point that we need guns to protect us from zombies? Who are already dead?

It's very gripping, a bit ott but worth the watch. A group of people trying to survive and finding a safe place to have a home again.
