Thank you Caryll for the heads up; what a tragic story - poor dogs.

Bravecto have denied any problems and say that it is totally safe - but they would say that, wouldn't they?

Of course! But water is totally safe - until you drink too much, or too little of it! There will always be some circumstances where nothing is safe, the key is to make it as safe as possible and it doesn't matter how many trials are had there will always be outliers in any population. I don't know enough about this particular drug, or the safety tests it has been through, to make specific comments, but I would err on the side of caution for my own dogs.

I think you hit the nail on the head, Lorraine. Couldn't agree more!

There's no proof to the statements made in that post. The owners can't be found, the vet can't be traced...

Whilst I'm not saying that Bravecto is dangerous, per se, I'm not convinced that it's quite as safe as they say it is. ALL powerful drugs/chemicals WILL produce bad reactions, and them continually saying that it doesn't just isn't plausible. I know they have to defend their product, but until the couple of bad reactions have been totally researched I wouldn't use it. Plus, of course, the ticks they cover just aren't found in the UK, apart from the brown dog tick, which is the least common over here!

Mind you, I don't use them anyway!

They're conducting more tests on it due to the allegations, so at least that can give people peace of mind either way.

Yes, and I hope it works out well. But it's still no good for the UK market - a complete waste of money as it doesn't cover the ticks prevalent here.

Plus, if you live in an area with little or no tick problem, then why use anything? Also, only a small minority of ticks carry the disease so infection isn't common.....

From the NHS help site...

It's thought only a small proportion of ticks carry the bacteria that cause Lyme disease, so being bitten doesn't mean you'll definitely be infected. However, it's important to be aware of the risk and seek medical advice if you start to feel unwell
