The Bucket Game Empty The Bucket Game

Post by Lorraine Fri Aug 07, 2015 7:37 am

Here is the first of a set of videos that Chirag Patel is making to show you the benefits of using the 'Bucket Game' to help with husbandry and vet visits.  Well worth a watch, and I'll post the follow-ups as they become available.

Uther and I learnt this on our APDT activity weekend taster session; I've been working with Morgan and Tristan since.

'The Bucket Game'
What's on your dog training bucket list?
The fun and easy dog training game made to empower the learners.
We create an environment where our dogs have choice and can tell us:
a. when they are ready to start
b. when they want to take a break
c. when they want to stop
d. when they want us to slow down
This game was initially designed to teach essential husbandry behaviours, (those behaviours that allow your dog to actively participate in their daily and veterinary care). But you will soon learn how this game can be integrated into your every day training to help reduce barking, increase confidence and enhance your overall relationship.
Designed by Internationally respected animal training & behaviour consult, Chirag Patel; 'The Bucket Game' makes dog training fun, easy and truly allows you to have a 'conversation' with your dog. The game is based on behavioural principles used in animal training.
Foundation of the Game:
Your dog will focus on the bucket, keeping his face 1-2 feet away and out of the bucket. He will focus towards the bucket to signal he is ready to start a training conversation with you and will remove his focus to signal you to stop, take a break or change the speed of the conversation. Your dog gets to start making some choices such as the ones mentioned above as well as whether he stands, sits, lies down. Using these principles you will work on your Dog Training Bucket List.
More information coming soon:)

I think it's impossible not to - and having met him a number of times, I can truly say he's just as lovely in person! happy

Looks good! happy Might try it with Demps.

I'm working on a 'touch' command with him at the moment. I think it'd be better if I finish that first. Bless him, he tries his best, but it's a slow process! tongue

laughing We haven't even gotten to the 'touch' command part yet! He's still trying to wrap his head around the idea of touching my hand and getting a reward.

I'd love to be able to do this with Demps. I definitely want to try! My worry isn't that he wouldn't be able to do, but that I'll give him confusing signals and he won't understand. tongue

That'd be great, thanks! happy I love training, but I'm not always sure how to tailor it to suit Demps. He got so fixed on the food I had as a reward earlier, he couldn't even see my other hand to touch it, even when I waved it in front of his face! laughing
