http://www.express.co.uk/news/nature/606794/UK-dog-owners-revealed-to-be-most-responsible-in-the-world wrote:THE UK’s dog owners are among the most responsible in the world when it comes to cleaning up after their pets, a survey has revealed.
Figures show sales of degradable poo bags have increased by a huge 1,400 per cent in the UK, with worldwide sales up by 800 per cent in the last 12 months.
South London firm Beco Pets, which carried out the research, says Britain followed closely by Spain and America are the countries where dog owners are becoming more responsible about clearing up their pets’ mess as attitudes change.
In a separate international survey earlier this year, French dog owners were revealed as being the worst offenders when it comes to cleaning up after their pooches, with pet owners preferring to leave the dirty work to others.
Co-Founder and sales director of the company, George Bramble, said: “It is now widely regarded as something of a social taboo and to be deeply antisocial to leave dog mess around public places.”
He added the increasing sales in more than 20 countries “suggests a change in attitudes is underway with most dog owners being more responsible when cleaning up after their pet”.
Toby Massey, co-founder and design director, said: “All our products are made from recycled, biodegradable materials and we encourage all dog owners to act responsibly when clearing up after their dogs.”
Around the world authorities are looking for new ways to get dog owners to pick up after their pets.
The Spanish city of Tarragona is considering using DNA analysis technology to name and shame owners who fail to clear up dog mess.
This follows the example of the London borough of Barking and Dagenham, which was the first UK council to introduce dog poop DNA tests this spring.
Figures from the Beco Pets survey show it sold 12.2 million poop bags sold in 23 countries for 2014/2015, compared to the 1.2milion across 17 countries for the year before.
In the UK sales grew from 440,000 in 2013/14 to 6.6million in 2014 /15, which is equivalent to a sales boom of 1400 per cent. Ends.

Where's the comparison with Scandinavian countries? I would have thought that they were miles ahead of us.

I think as a nation we have got better over the years, but there are still a lot of irresponsible people around. I honestly believe that men are the worst offenders (and this includes my son ) - they just can't seem to cope with poo. Just listen to the screams when they get some on their shoe!

Absolutely!
Sweden has the best record of animal care in the world! There are no dog rescue centres in Sweden because they are not needed!
