What do you think about the law they wanted to introduce - do you agree with it or disagree with it and why?
What do you think of the current laws on failing to pick up dog excrement?
BBC News wrote:Belfast City Council lobbied the DoE to introduce a law to make it an offence.
The proposal is contained in a Belfast City Council dog-fouling action plan.
It would have enabled dog wardens to issue fixed penalty notices to dog owners without bags or other means to clear up after their dog.
However, the DoE decided not to amend the current legislation.
It is currently an offence for a dog-owner to fail to remove excrement left by their dog.
Owners can face a fixed penalty of up to £80 if they are caught allowing their dog to foul a public area.

Re: What do you think?
I think the law as it stands is good enough as long as it is policed!
I certainly don't think it should be an offense to not have poo bags with you - what if you're coming to the end of your walk & you've used up your bags. You know your dog won't do any more, but you would still be fined. That would be silly and unfair.

Re: What do you think?
I agree with the current laws, provided they are enforced properly.
I'm glad that the proposed law wasn't passed, though, as there's just no sense to it. As you said, what if you've used up your bags? Dempsey never goes to the toilet more than three times in a walk. If he went the third time, that would likely use up my bags.
What if you're on your way to the vets for an emergency? Would you stop to carefully collect poo bags on your way out or would you get going as quickly as possible?

It certainly shouldn't be an offence not to carry poo-bags. Of course all dog-walkers should, but apart from the running-out scenario already mentioned, what would happen if the dog walker told the dog warden "Yes, I have poo bags about my person" and the warden didn't believe them. The warden frisks the dog walker and goes through his/her pockets? No way!

That would be an assault & they could be sued by the dog walker!

Quite right! Only the police should have the right to search somebody, IMO.
