The soldiers? My guess is that they were focusing on their job and there are a lot of strays out there, so it probably wouldn't have been practical to take him in straight away.

But the second time?! Ahh.

In years watching him.

That poor dog! The treatment he received at the hands of so-called human beings beggars belief - it's a wonder he tolerates humans at all now.

I hope he wins Scuffts.

Tbh, I think they did what they could in the situation. They saved him from an abusive mob, despite the fact that they were there as soldiers in a war, and then let him free again because he was okay. Yes, it took a while, but I can understand why. A lot of soldiers in their position probably would never have intervened in the first place, as they're there to do a (rather unpleasant) job.

I hope he wins as well! Lovely boy!

I can understand why it took the soldiers some while as well, for the same reasons that Eleanor has given. They are there to fight a war, not act as dog rescuers, and thank goodness they decided that enough was enough in Wylie's case and acted as they did.

Goes to show: even if the most horrible situations, people can still be surprisingly kind.
