Web page recommending regular food changes ?? Your thoughts please
http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/how-often-should-i-change-foods.html
In the last few years I have been taking an active part in forums and FB etc I don't ever recall this being advised , though it is something a lot of people do naturally as the dogs get bored with what they eat

Hmmmm.
I can see what they mean. But I'd be more inclined to believe it if it wasn't written by one of the well known (and expensive) dog food manufacturers.
I'm not saying that there's a hidden agenda there, but.....
Isn't it strange, though, that dog food manufacturers (and vets) have been telling us for years that you should find a food that suits & stick with it! If your dog gets picky, take the food up after 10/15 minutes & try again next meal time.

Sorry, I saw Eden Holistic about half way down - it's an ad but I thought it was who'd written it.
I'm not too sure that I'd change as often as they say to, though. Surely if your dog is enjoying his food and is doing well on it, it's best to leave well alone?

I've heard it a few times recently, but very often in the middle of an otherwise very biased article. Variety is good, provided it is not too drastic of a change in quantity or quality. A lot of these articles recommend a complete change in diet every week or so, which I do not agree with.

If its deemed that its a good idea then I'd be quite happy to swap over every 4-6 months or so but not every 5 minutes

It was hard enough to find a food that Kuchar will eat at all - I don't think I could stand going through all that trouble and expense again - and again ....

Agreed. In regards to palatability, I'm inclined to believe that a change would be beneficial, provided the new food is nutritionally beneficial to the dog. As you said, though, there's no point doing it more frequently than every few months, as this is just going to cause intestinal upset.
