Baby rabbit on the road - Page 6 Empty Baby rabbit on the road

Post by Hayley Mon May 26, 2014 7:55 pm

First topic message reminder :

Driving to the forest to walk the mutts and i saw a baby rabbit crawling across the road, so had to stop and pick it up. Poor thing has a big gash on the shoulder and a mark on the bum, and was clearly lifted by a buzzard. I got out and walked to it and it turned and ran towards me  broken heart brought it home and have put it in a cat carrier in a santa hat with some food and water, if its even old enough to have that. Called the wildlife centre but its closed now!

Don't think it will survive sad but keep fingers crossed for the little mite.

He ate most of a dandilion leaf. and a few pellets. Then the first thing he did when i put him in bed was go back to the pear lol

Just hope hes not eating too much and will end up with a sore tum sad

Botanica happy I am worried about the back wound though cause i dont want to have nothing on it but i don't know if i'm doing a good thing trying to heal it or not, cause its a pocket. I don't want the opening to heal and leave in the puss..

It'll be very difficult for him to eat too much - don't worry! happy Wild rabbits are continuous grazers. He'll also know instinctually when to stop.

What did the vet say about the back wound?

Vet gave a penicillin anti-b today, so no more visits until Wednesday. He gave me a sachet of Royal Canin milk, but i won't open it until i hear some reviews? If it is not much different to the beaphar i will be looking to return it. Stressing out a little at the mo tbh, have spent over £60 on bunny and thats basically all the money i had for my car tax, which won't be getting done now.

Oh dear. Whatever happened to vets treating wild animals free?

Maybe that'll be all he needs?

Dunno. But the vet asked me if it was wild so i did say yes cause i'm not gonna flat out lie about it but no offer of free care.

Do you think it's something you could talk to the vet about?

Royal Canin milk is supposed to be very good, as the lactose balance is similar to that of the milk given by the mother! happy

Blast, i wonder how much i paid for it lol (bill today was £20)

On wednesday i will ask about costs cause i really can't afford more i've spent all that i can spare after money i need for the other animals, and i am using so much petrol! I have a bumper box of pizza to eat hahah. If my parents knew id spent this much they would freak out. On the other hand, bunny seems to loooove pear.

I think it's budgeting time - supermarket generic brands from now on! laughing

But seriously, under the circumstances, the vet might be able to work something out if you tell him! happy

The experts at it again. Penicillin isn't good they wouldn't have let them give that, the vets clearly not very competent, the royal canin isn't good enough.

Don't think I'll be updating that forum any more!

Tell them where to stick their penicillin. If the vet recommended it and it's a vet you trust, go right ahead! happy

If I might suggest something - generic brand pasta and instant cheese sauce! laughing That, and Ainsley Harriet cous cous!

shocked What?! You haven't lived until you've eaten it! It's amazing!

I really wouldn't worry too much about the weight! happy It's bound to fluctuate a few grams every couple of days. Most wild rabbits weigh roughly 120g when they completely leave the nest, so he sounds normal!

Woohoo! happy Pics of the goat please!

Pfft. Tell that so-called know it all on the rabbit forum to catch up with the 21st century and stop living in the past. It's been some time now since the use of penicillin on rabbits was met with garlic and crucifixes! Most of the 'dangers' of penicillin with rabbits are myths and inaccurate results from biased studies.

Lol nearly **** a brick bunny was lying on it's back legs in the air. Fast asleep! Didn't eat anything in the food box though, but lapped about 1ml of milk. But I did give a large lunch.
