Seaworld vs Blackfish debate

I'm just watching now.

I watched that as well. Tried very hard to keep an open mind to both sides of the debate, but I'm afraid that was nigh on impossible, as I'd already formed my opinions of the subject.

Well i'm sure you already know my view lol but its interesting seeing the answers they try to give. There is no doubt captivity aided in the knowledge of the animals, but we know all we need to know now and I don't see how tricks and performances is aiding in the knowledge of animals.

lol the trainer is thick. She can't stay on topic at all.. Just talking a bunch of crap.

Pfft. The performances are purely to draw in tourists and money. Hiding behind the claim that it's to educate the public is nonsense; you can get a better education by watching them in their natural habitats in real life or on video.

yah. She tried to say that the show enspires people to care. Yeah, the lights and music and glamour is really helping to help wild animals..

I often wonder if these people actually believe the rubbish they spout.

I liked what the marine mammal scientist had to say. She seemed very sure of her facts, whereas the debaters on the side of SeaWorld seemed very hesitant, unsure of themselves and stumbling. Also backtracked several times and were very repetitive.

Very repetitive. And the charts are very missleading, they would look good to someone who didnt know anything about charts. The size of the population sw looks at is too small to build up those kind of stats!

They still didn't really say how the blasting music and flashing lights etc can be seen as good. They mentioned that the fireworks provide less noise under the water than the natural noises in a sea pen. Well, maybe, but the fact is the whales spend most of their time at the surface, so they will hear that blasting music and fireoworks in the real world. Not under the water.

They've also not mentioned morgan, but there is a few mins to go.

I totally agree! 'Performances' have never aided knowledge, just made money for unscrupulous people.

I can't watch the debate on my phone. I watched blackfish and I've seen other things showing the size of the tanks they are kept in. From the secret filming they done at seaworld for blackfish, the staff just seemed to spout whatever was on their employee script and hadn't done any research on the animals they were working with. Blackfish was heartbreaking to watch
