They were battery farm chooks I rescued & they couldn't even stand up for the first week when i got them. They had never seen ground let alone grass when i got them. Tyson thought they were injured chicks for days. This pic is about 2.5-3 wks after i got them. But it was a few yrs ago now.

Hello from Australia. Tsp623

Alice in the pic is in the front here.

Poor things! sad Well done to you for taking them in!

Reminds me of a video I watched a while back, with battery farm chickens taking their first steps on grass. It was so touching! Such beautiful animals, and yet there are still people who treat them like egg factories.

Prob not, I never have either. Except for one near here that was the spitting image of jess.
Jess was born near where I live but I found her 50 km away. When i moved here I saw a dog exactly like her. I was going to chase the owner... I thought he had my girl!!!! shocked  But she was out in the yard. I could have sworn it was her & wondered if he owned one of her siblings.

It was really sad to see an animal that couldn't stand on the ground & needed wire to hold to stand up. But dont start me on battery farms.

It just isn't right. sad The stress they go through is unbelievable. The nasties responsible try to act like it's all fine - they don't tell people about the problems the hens have with osteoporosis, overgrown beaks, embedded nails, deformed feet, etc.. I'm glad awareness is increasing now.

Shame about the dog/owner! Maybe you'll see them again one day!

Don't worry about where you're posting! happy It's all very relaxed. The Dog Intro area is really for anybody who wants to dedicate an entire intro to their dogs and show them off! happy

The chicken pics are fine here as well, but if you want a specific thread, there are areas towards the bottom of the forum under 'Other Pets' happy

You are right about all but their beaks. Battery hens have their beaks ground down as young chicks & they NEVER grow back. I have too chop their vegies as they cannot peck at it enough to break it up to eat. shocked Many yrs after i got them they still have a square beak. It is done so they cannot peck each other in close confinement.

Ah, I didn't know that! A friend of mine had rescued hens which needed their beaks clipped. I assumed they were battery hens, but looks like they weren't in that case!

Poor things sad
