Possibly found Billys cross
Doing a bit of research and from what i have found it looks like billy could be a dutch shepherd mix. He is just too large to be a collie/lab mix, and too leggy and built. The way he walks is very Shepherd like and his mannerisms too. So thinking shepherdxlabxcollie too cause he has the white markings in stranger places and no brindle. He has a yard protectiveness, he has already shown that he will be very vocal and show strangers they are not allowed in the yard! My uncle (who comes here quite a lot as he has a shed) came and he went mad at the gate and my dad had to pull him away (so that is something to work on, needs to come to call!!!)

I'd be a little sceptical of a Dutch Shepherd, after all there aren't that many in the UK.
Maybe the shep/lab/collie would be about right, though?

Hmmm. Possible, then, although his shape doesn't really look like it. Maybe there's more lab?

Half devil dog lol! His cat chasing is a little annoying now, he runs outside and runs to the spots the cats are and if he sees one you can't get him back until hes satisfied it is GONE. Scared my little kittys will run away now they have the stables which are closed so they are safe but its still not nice being chase out of your own home is it

That's something that you'll have to work on gradually - he's probably never been stopped from chasing cats. But cats aren't stupid, they'll know where they're safe & they'll work out exactly how far they can tease him!!

Yeah, hopefully that's something he'll gradually settle down with. Having cats around regularly might help him anyway!

Trying to figure him out and what gets his attention. He always comes back but in his own time and doesn't even twitch when you shout. He is unfortunately like lexi in that toys don't interest him and (unlike her) isn't fussed on food, it's quite a chore to get him to take anything lol
Might get a squeaky toy and see if that noise disrupts his brainwaves.

Is he the type of dog who isn't interested in playing or is it that he doesn't know how to play?

Not interested at all. Watches the ball go and just looks as if "um. No."
I tried chasing after the ball myself and he just walks away rolling his eyes lol he's not a mouthy dog he won't lick or put anything in his mouth.

Just makes me wonder if he's ever been 'taught' to play with things like that.

Maybe he's just never been played with? He might take a bit of encouragement. Â

I think he's been taught to be very respectful he doesn't sniff around food won't touch the bin is very good. All in all he is a wonderful dog (honestly can't believe he was abandoned!)

Try a tug toy before you try throwing a ball.
And try some roasted or smoked chicken. Very few dogs can resist those.
Spike can be a bit of a git with his recall so what I've done is teach him Cookie = treat. When I call him and he's distracted I yell Cookie, Cookie and he comes running for his treat.

Re: Possibly found Billys cross
Looking at the pics in Introduce your dogs..
From first pic I'd say he's probably 3/4 Labby but in the last pic I can see some Shepherd in his head.
Dutch Shepherds are rare, even in Holland.

Re: Possibly found Billys cross
I've always wondered about getting a DNA test done on Buster. There is something in his ad: Boxer/Staffy/other(s) that I'm not sure about.
ETA: What are your thoughts looking at my avatar? He's 22 inches and 5 stone.

Wendy, to me i would have said he was 3/4 staffy
As for Billy, yeh deffo 3/4 lab, just has such little lab traits, so much more shep, from my experience. (p.s. thanks for telling me about them being rare, just went for it cause of location!)

Wendy, I'd definitely think he's mostly Stafford! Hard to say if there's any other breeds mixed in.
Billy's a cutie I can see why you think there might be some shepherd in him.
