That actually made me cry. Memories of my chooks that couldn't stand for days on grass! Apologies to those that use crates humanely,  they can be used kindly, but...thats why I will never agree to crates or tethers. Most do not use them here except for show dogs travelling, miniscule amount use in homes.

I'd need to be dead before you caged mine. & my girls will never again know a cage except for their hutch at night. They wonder my yard, free to do as they please.

My belief is... NO CAGES OF ANY TYPE, I teach mine to live together in harmony! Mine (dogs);travel in the car uncaged & are trained to lay down for safety & not to leave the car without me asking so.

Edited: girls =chooks.

I don't like confinement either, Tracy! happy Demps has his crate, but it's left open and serves as an enclosed, sheltered bed.

Cheers... that I agree with! Pls dont misunderstand.., I dont like confinement except for safety. Open doors are the policy here.

Demps is a bed eleanor, a safe place to sleep. Not a prison. He can come & go. That is lovely. I mean for those that are locked in.

That video brings tears to my eyes, but they are also tears of joy - those dogs at last know what the fresh air & freedom is like!

Yes, Dempsey has a crate, but if he hadn't he would probably have killed himself as a pup! He would not only chew things, he would swallow anything that would fit down his throat! Even now he's a bugger for it. But as Eleanor says, his crate is now his safe retreat & his own personal space - when he goes in there he's left alone (unless there's something I absolutely have to do!). The door is never closed now & he comes & goes as he pleases.

Same here - the thought of an animal locked up in a cage for hours (or even days/months) at a time is horrific!
