Rolf Harris found guilty, to be sentenced

Can't say as I'm surprised, after everything that's come to light during the trial. Still a horrible thought though. I grew up watching Rolf Harris' programmes. When the Jimmy Saville incidents were revealed, I think people could sort-of see the truth behind it from the way he behaved. Rolf Harris, though, is somebody I never would have guessed would do something like that.

Well 5 years 9 months is all he gets   

I hope the vile man dies in prison.

Oh and i sharn't repeat what else i said, as there are ladies about!....

I was very disappointed that he sat stony faced and showed no signs of remorse for his victims. I'd also forgotten until reminded today that he had recently down-loaded child porn.

I have wide-ranging tastes in music and one of my favourites was Sun Arise - it's still in my library but I don't know for how much longer, it just won't be the same anymore.

It was a longer sentence than I thought he'd get, but still not enough, in my opinion.

It sounds like a short sentence but at his age it's still likely he will die in there. And no pretty hanging baskets for the streets!

I am disgusted with him! He also stuck his tounge down the mouth of a reporter in Belfast. My reverence for him is in the toilet.

But, I stand by my statement.  With good behaviour..... he won't serve longer than 3 yrs. & he'll be segregated. Put him in with the sharks.... they have children to.

The judge had to use the laws at the time of the crime or it would have been a longer sentence. 

He should be made to pay compensation. His fortune should be taken. It wont change a thing for his victims but... there should be a true penalty for what he did. The jail term is not enough.

Hope they extend the term.

I agree with you Tracy, to the most part. Leave his ailing wife enough to live on, and pay the rest to his victims.

I feel terrible for the victims, but also for his family. I can't imagine what they must be going through.

Got to wonder though, if the wife and family are sticking by him so steadfast, did they know? I know its their dad / husband, but would normal people not be disgusted and leave him ?

From what I've been reading, they've not had much of a choice - not his daughter, anyway. His wife is ill and probably very torn about what's happened; having been married to him for so long, maybe she has put her trust in him and believed that he was innocent. His daughter apparently didn't want anything to do with him and was only shown walking into court with him due to a sense of obligation to the family.

I can only go from what's been brought to light during the trial, but I don't think they knew. The daughter was reported to have gone into a rage and destroyed his paintings when she found out that he'd had underage contact with her best friend.

I personally think that his family are also victims in this case. His poor wife has been in a terrible state for years because of him. Obviously she knew he was having affairs, but I'm not sure that she would have known about the paedophilia.

What really annoyed me about yesterday is that his barrister claimed he'd been living an 'upright' life in the last 20 years. Really? So taking pornographic images of children is 'upright', is it?

I haven't read anything about it tbh cause i can't be bothered lol but glad to know that about the daughter.

Now that he has been found guilty and sentenced, we are learning more - and what we are learning is not pretty. I don't know that I have ever been so disillusioned about anyone in my life, tbh.

I would very much doubt that his wife or daughter knew anything about this until it all started crawling out once he was charged. The wife is always the last to know is true, and no husband and father is going to advertise to his wife and daughter "hey guys, this is how I get my rocks off".

What I cannot understand is what took these women so long in complaining - I can understand the children because sex is scary thing at that age, but if I were the reporter in Belfast who got his tongue down my throat I would have reported it immediately.

His frail wife and dependent daughter should not suffer any more from his actions, at least financially.

I think what we have to remember is that when a lot of these assaults took place, women were expected to put up with that sort of thing in the workplace, or lose their jobs. If they complained afterwards nobody believed them. These men knew that & took full advantage.

Yeah caryll. Same is happening here atm with the nuns and "newly found" graves of babies. Everyone (and by that i mean everyone...i knew!!) there was a mass baby grave. The poor workers were prob very sheltered kids who were forced to look after babies and didn't have a clue, then forced to hide it. i hear that someone who was a nun back in that time who ended up pregnant, and they basically told her to let her baby die or else.

So sad.

The power of 'persuasion'.  

We also need to remember that people like Savile and Harris were very clever; they donated huge sums of money to children's hospitals and charities. Nurses have admitted that they didn't report them to the police, as then the funding might disappear, leaving the children with no treatment options.

Plus, who would have believed one woman's word against Rolf Harris? He would have gotten the best lawyers around to defend him.
