I saved a mouse from Kuchar!
This evening whilst walking Kuchar through our local "park" , he suddenly bounded excitedly towards a low-hanging hazel bush. Unfortunately, some litterbug had deposited a bunch of wire there and Kuchar was in it. I was terrified that it was barbed wire (it wasn't fortunately) and that Kuchar would injure himself so that was my first thought. Then I saw what had excited Kuchar - a little brown field mouse with big ears, crouching petrified in fear. I picked it up - it was so sweet though still rigid with fear, and I put it deep into the heart of the hazel bush branches. I looked again a few seconds later and it had disappeared.
I don't know whether Kuchar was intent on killing it, or whether he just wanted to play with it and might have accidentally killed it by bashing it with his paws, but I'm so glad I helped it escape.
Now if Kuchar had even attempted to catch and kill the plague of house mice that I suffered a few months ago .... but he didn't!

Hard to say if he'd have killed it or not, isn't it? I know Dempsey would have, but whether it would have been through play or prey instinct, I don't know.
Glad the poor little thing survived, though - I think the field mice are so pretty!

Field mice are beautiful. I'm so glad you saved it.
Kuchar.... be gentle!
Jess would have killed it. She is a better mouser than any cat. Tyson? Dont know?
Well done to you!

Kuchar is SO boisterous and SO "off his head" when he gets excited that he wouldn't have been gentle - only the wire bundle saved this little mouse from being played with to death.

I have one that lives in the chook pen wood shed.
I stamp as I enter the chook pen so he knows we are coming as Jess will sniff him out & kill him, Tyson will dig up his little burrow if he smells him. So I give him warning so it can run & hide. He is welcome to some seeds & to sleep in the hay bails. He's so cute!

It was very sweet and I'm still thrilled at having seen it, I haven't seen one for years. I just hope Kuchar didn't accidentally stamp on it.

Hope so. When I was a child I would have taken the mouse home - but I know better now.

Aww, I love little mice. I had pet mice years ago and would love to have some again but they're not easy to find now.
I think my two would have tried to play with it as well.

I know. I hate them. Luckily, jess also hates them. She's a brilliant mouser.
Maybe she can teach chilli to watch for them?

Re: I saved a mouse from Kuchar!
I know its funny but, it's TRUE! My last cat (a ginger long haired tom) used to sit in the yard watching while Jess caught any mice!!! Didn't happen often, but it did a few times.

I have no idea what that means? I've never heard that before. Does it mean, let someone else do the work?
We have a saying... "same dog, different balls". What does your saying in fur?
Not sure about English cats but Aussie cats have servants. They are generally either human or canine.
