Angry post

Sorry i cant contain it any longer. Billy is doing my ****ing head in. He will be perfect all day then after going for a walk he will bolt out of the car and get away (when we get home from the walk) usually runs onto the road and up the neighbours lane and has a barney with his dog. The lack of call back is really getting on my tits and the bloting without a care in the world is literally the most annoying trait ever. We just have not clicked at all to the point ive told dad i'm not walking him anymore, its not worth it. He is just SO effing annoying!

As frustrating as it is, I understand exactly what you mean. It can take a long time to find what works for both you and the dog, and it can feel completely hopeless at the beginning, like there's nothing that will work. Especially when it's so hard to figure out why a dog will behave at one point, and then misbehave at another.

When you're feeling calmer and more relaxed, try writing down all of the things you've tried so far, as well as things you haven't. It might help to clear your mind and make things easier. You could also try writing down instances where he has and hasn't behaved himself, so that you can compare and see what's different about each scenario.

I suppose my wrong move today was not focusing on him for a millisecond while lexi got out of the car. He's usually good if you catch him BEFORE he has any ideas. He got out first so away he went. Will make him wait in future an get lexi first. He's just a pain in the arse and dad is sick of him too. Mum is the one who yapped to get him and never looks at him!!!

I do sympathise Hayley.

Kuchar is getting on for 3 years old now and his recall is pants - he is completely hare-brained and tears off after everything and nothing and no commands, treats or toys in the world will distract him.

So he's on a long lead. It's a shame when he's playing with his friends but it's the quirk in his brain we've learned to live with.

Just remember it's not Billy's fault.
He only does what he has been conditioned to do. This is one of the bad sides of taking on a rescue dog. You have to try and change ingrained behaviour and can work at it your whole life and never get it right.
TBH it will be much easier (and less frustrating) to work around his faults than to try change him. If he has no recall you have to make sure he never gets the opportunity to get away.

He's never off lead but will bolt out of the back of the car. It's just so annoying that he will be fine for weeks then suddenly he's off. He can e good I know he can, just does this to annoy me.

That's not true.
Dogs don't think out things like that. Dogs live in the now, the moment, he's only doing what comes into his head that split second. Dogs don't think about the consequences of their actions. They just run off to go see, play, fight.
He definitely doesn't lie in bed tonight and think... 'Mmmhhh... tomorrow if we go for a walk I'm going to do this and that just to piss of the mistress'.
First thing to do is not expect him to be good all the time. He's just a dog, he's going to behave like a dog sometimes.

You have a lot of things going on at the moment with the horses and grooming course etc.. you might just be projecting your frustrations onto Billy. We're human, we do this: Fight with our families because our boss is picking on us etc...

He's only been with your guys a short while and just look at how far he's come in that while. Be proud of what he has accomplished.

Could be that he just needs practice for the car. Have you tried setting aside 15 minutes to work on that specific area? Getting him in the car, taking him back out, etc..

Failing that, until he's settled down, you could try introducing a crate to the back of the car, so that you can slip your hand in first and put his collar and lead on.

Do you have load luggage rings in the boot of the car Hayley ?? use a double ended short lead ( like a lead splitter ) and then when you open the boot he is secure , you can clip him on his lead and he can't escape My 2 are always secure as they travel on the back seat with seat belt adapters so clip em on leads and off them before they get out , they won't bolt but Tommy may go looking for trouble so better safe than sorry

Hes too big to fit in a crate that would fit in the car, if that makes sense. Like i said, he will be fine 9/10 then once will just go rogue.
