Muzzle training a dog
I often see people confused as to why their dog constantly tries to paw their muzzle off, but all they have done is plonk it on and think they will just accept it.
What i don't get is you train your dog to walk on a lead, to get used to wearing a collar and dragging the lead around the house as pups, but no one thinks to train to wear a muzzle?
Both my boys are and all future dogs will be muzzle trained and i own a proper fitting muzzle PER dog. Chance wears one regularly as part of his walks, and Harvey we have for emergencies such as he injures himself, and a dog in pain can and WILL lash out and this is where a lot of bites happen through no fault of the dog.
So i do recommend that everyone owns a appropriate muzzle and to train your dog to wear it for such emergencies.
So the muzzle i will always recommend is the baskerville ultra as it allows the dog to pant and drink properly.
Modeled by the lump - see the approx. 1 inch gap between his nose and the end. This is size 6 on Chance the current largest size in this style
squashed i know!
has a loop under chin for collar to go through
NOT a fabric muzzle like these:
This is a very simple but effective method to train your dog to wear a muzzle:
