Do any of you train cats?
I am training Chilli... we are now at... recall 80%. Sit 50/50. Ball or stick return 70% (if she doesn't want to play), otherwise 100% if she's in the mood. . Patting her brush on my leg to get her to stand up & "ragdoll flop" her front end over my knee for a brush 100%.
If she wants something she "meows" till I follow her to what she wants & justs sits! Maybe infront of her food cupboard or somewhere her toy has gone she cant reach. (She learnt that from copying Jess & Tyson). She has learnt to open sliding all by herself!!!
Do you train your cat? What do you train your cat to do? Do you train them at all? or have they trained you, which may be more to the point.

Re: Do any of you train cats?
My sister used to train her cats - to come and eat/come and be fussed/come and play etc.
Or.......
maybe they were training her?

Re: Do any of you train cats?
Let me break this down in a Chilli vs my cats format.
My lot are about the same. They're also very smart and will come 100% early and late as they know the chance of food being involved is very probable.
Alex can't be arsed to sit. Fasih is a very nervous, scared cat so runs away from everything most of the time (due to having such bad eyesight), Bubbles only sits if there's not something better going on.
Never taught, not teaching this.
Here she's got you well trained. I brush mine irregularly but usually catch them where they're sleeping.
She's got you well trained here as well. Mine also do this. Scream till you get up to give them what they want.
Bubbles can open the window if the latch is not pushed down all the way. It's not a complicated latch.
She's also trained my sleeping body to stay in one position till it cramps, so she can sleep on my hip.
Alex will wail in front of the door till I open it if he feels to lazy to go through the window, even at 1/2/3/4 in the morning.
Fasih will sit on the edge of the counter and catch me with his paw if his food bowl are empty. He's been so subtle with his subliminal training, he now hooks me and I automatically get out the cat food to fill the bowls. Sometimes he does it just because he's an evil cat and wants to make me do things because the bowl will still be full.
So yeah ...

Re: Do any of you train cats?
I don't have a cat, though they've grown on me in the past few years. I would always employ a certain amount of training, regardless of species, where practical. With a cat, I'd train it as far as to keep it safe, but not in the same way as I would train a dog. Cats are so much more independent than dogs, so I'd focus my efforts on the important things. I certainly wouldn't try to discipline a cat in the same way I would a dog!

My cat who died was like a dog. He would jump onto anything you tapped, jump up your leg, sit, come to call and followed me about like a shadow. I miss him so much

The problem with cats is that they train you to think you're training them!

True! But... when I call, "puppies COME" so does she! She sits on command, brings her toy mouse when I say " bring the ball", & runs when I say... "come on, dinner puppies". She sits in the kitchen with the dogs waiting for her food. She eats (literally) inbetween jess & tyson. If I pat my leg with her brush she flops over my knee for a brush. When I say "bed Chilli" she hops up on my dresser & sleeps there till the sun rises when she antagonizes us all at 4am

So what happens if you say, "No waking up at 4am, Chilli"?

I still reckon all you've taught her is how to get her own way!
